Cryogenic Dreams

Chill-out (shortened as chill; also typeset as chillout or chill out) is a loosely defined form of popular music characterized by slow tempos and relaxed moods. The definition of "chill-out music" has evolved throughout the decades, and generally refers to anything that might be identified as a modern type of easy listening. Some of the genres associated with "chill" include EDM, downtempo, classical, dance, jazz, hip hop, world, pop, lounge, and ambient. The term "chill-out music" – originally conflated with "ambient house" – came from an area called "The White Room" at the Heaven nightclub in London in 1989. There, DJs played ambient mixes from sources such as Brian Eno and Pink Floyd to allow dancers a place to "chill out" from the faster-paced music of the main dance floor. Ambient house became widely popular over the next decade before it declined due to market saturation. In the early 2000s, DJs in Ibiza's Café Del Mar began creating ambient house mixes that drew on jazz, classical, Hispanic, and New Age sources. The popularity of chill-out subsequently expanded to dedicated satellite radio channels, outdoor festivals, and thousands of compilation albums. "Chill-out" was also removed from its ambient origins and became its own distinct genre. "Chillwave" was an ironic term coined in 2009 for music that could already be described with existing labels such as dream pop. Despite the facetious intent behind the term, chillwave was the subject of serious, analytical articles by mainstream newspapers, and became one of the first genres to acquire an identity online. As on-demand music streaming services grew in the 2010s, a form of downtempo tagged as "lo-fi hip hop" or "chillhop" became popular among many streaming apps.

Dreaming Of Snowfall is the first in a winter compilation series by Dreaming Awake. Compiled by label boss Treavor Moontribe, the release consists of 10 fabulous tracks of which most will be released as singles with remixes in 2025. Featured on the release are Jamie Stevens, Anton Tumas, Amir Telem, Narik, Bluetech, Luke Mandala, Dance Spirit, Digital Mess, Grace In Space, Paul A. George, Ghostpipes and label boss himself Treavor Moontribe.

The vibe of the compilation is more soothing and soft, mostly in the Organic/Melodic House realms with a splash of Progressive House as well. A perfect release to keep you warm in the winter months and all proven dance floor gems!

Every once in a while we surface to share our music and shed some light in an otherwise bleak reality. And that time is soon upon us, Ladies & Gents. Our third installment, called "Junior", will be out on the 23rd of March 2009.

Phutureprimitive teams up with An-Ten-Nae on a unique approach to collaboration. The duo wrote ‘Altered Frequencies’ together but each will release their own edit. The Phutureprimitive edit releases October 11, following by the An-Ten-Nae edit on October 25. The ‘Altered Frequencies Tour’ features both artists and can be seen across the US in November through January.

“Everything in Life is Vibration” Albert Einstein. Frequency is the rate at which that vibration is happening. Altered Frequencies is about playing with the meta-level perspective that we can alter our frequencies (choices, thoughts, meaning we assign things, actions) to create different outcomes. It’s about exploring how much responsibility we can take for our own vibrations and the resulting outcomes they influence and manifest. The title also relates to the collaborative creative process of both artists starting writing one song together, but branching out to finalize two seperate edits. You could see this as us starting with the same source frequency, and the result will be two different altered frequencies, filtered through their individual psyches, and pouring from the speakers.

‘Altered Frequencies (Phutureprimitive Edit)’ seeks to tell a story which begins at night, in a ceremonial context. Beginning with the sound of crickets and an Oud (a short-necked string instrument predominantly heard in West Asia and North African Music) playing a melody hinting at a journey about to unfold. The song & journey continues and explores the feeling of being catapulted out of the familiar and into the void, into the collective consciousness, out of your mind and into your senses, beyond space and time.
