In 2012, the Hackney Colliery Band were commissioned by Musical Director David Arnold to produce a 45 minute set of covers which we performed at the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics. For a limited time only, we're making some of these recordings available for you to listen to online, as a little thank you for your support of HCB so far.

Zima's comeuppance

Formed from the ashes of cult early noughties midlands bands The Fire, Katabasis and The Equal Opportunities Working Group, Ubermanoeuvre exploded onto the South London punk scene in 2010 with the release of their debut album "Burn This". Described by one reviewer as "what Hunter S Thomson would have sounded like if he had been in a punk band", Ubermanouvre released their debut album with a dangerously sold out show at London's 229 Venue, and followed it with a string of shows across the UK. The band returned to the studio and in 2013 released their follow up EP "Defend the Stage". Following a seven year hiatus, and with the addition of a trumpet, 2020 will see the band return to save the world with a new mini-album titled "Loud Music For Awesome People".

A little bit of fun production music - an upbeat quirky march with a Pythonesque flavour.

This was a little remix I did mid-lockdown in early 2021 to kick my year off. Remix site Metapop provided stems from different world music artists, via the world music conference Womex, which I regularly attend.

I wanted to explore the rhythmic connections between Haiti, Malawi and Colombia with this remix, so I have used percussion and vocal stems from La Perla (Colombia), vocal stems from Erol Josué (Haiti/USA) and babatone/banjo guitare stems from Madalisto Band (Malawi), along with my own kick sample, some very subtle synth bass and live trumpet/electronics. All processed to sit nicely together and layered up in various octaves. Due to lockdown, I am not currently in my studio, so working blind on the mix with a new small travel setup, so hope it translates. Would love to know what you think!
