"The enigmatic Benson Streaker returns to Canapé this summer with a sweltering four-track 12”: ‘Ulterior Guidance’.

Transcending the woozy microcosm of breakbeat and electronica established on his label debut [CNP015 - ‘The Body / Something’s Not Right’], CNP020 sees Streaker push his sound into opulent technicolour.

Amid a wash of psychedelic hues, A1 (’Strange Operator’) beckons with an irresistibly saturated tech-house skip. Seatbelts are advised, as Benson’s heart-throb 4x4 propels us to a strange, yet loving, astral plane.

A2 illustrates a co-existence of sophistication and minimalism rarely found in post-millennial house music; an otherworldly vocal (courtesy of Ursula Rucker) is glued effortlessly with Streaker’s understated percussion, on the blissful 7-minute title track.

On the flip side, ‘Dimension’ (B1) thrusts us into a Balearic haze of raves-gone-by. Glimpses of early acid house and trance permeate this shimmering and uplifting club-pumper, before our cosmic journey concludes with the elegant and soulful ‘It’s Yours’ (B2). Acting as a reminder of our Earthly genesis, shades of quintessential minimal house and UK garage tastefully underpin this 00’s-inspired stomper."

Session Victim today announce their forthcoming 11-track album titled ‘Needledrop’, with new single ‘Made Me Fly’. The single is a collaboration with singer-songwriter Beth Hirsch, best known for her work with French duo Air on their 1998 album ‘Moon Safari’. The music video was created by animator Mike Scott and tells a computer game love story visually inspired by 80’s and 90’s point and click adventure games.

The German pair of Hauke Freer and Matthias Reiling are no strangers to releasing quality long-format albums and while rising through a discerning community of DJ’s have previously released three consecutive albums on tastemaker label Delusions of Grandeur culminating in 2017’s “Listen To Your Heart”. 

Their latest and fourth studio album set to be released on 'Night Time Stories’, the London based sister label to the coveted ‘LateNightTales’, marks a notable move towards the downtempo dynamic of artists like Nightmares on Wax, DJ Shadow and Portishead. Artists that have all played a strong influence in Session Victim’s variety of output over the last decade. ‘Needledrop’ provides a suite of both uplifting and easy-listening moments, refined and understated individually, yet cohesively crafted with the honest musicianship and inarguable credentials that we know of production duo Session Victim. 

As accomplished producers, Session Victim have been intent on delivering a characteristic body of work for uninterrupted play, and with ‘Needledrop’ they have landed with significant inspiration from the lavishly textured and subtly layered jazz and soul compositions that found their way into late 90’s trip hop. 
Fusing an array of live instrumentation and organic groove through their intuitive sampling sessions, Session Victim’s fourth album succeeds in actively engaging the listener’s mood and intellect in equal measure.

UrbnMowgli & Moodrich - E-Motions EP [CLIPP158]

UrbanMowgli and Moodrich are a couple of German based lads that love belting out tha tunes. They mix it up here for an EP consisting of a couple collaborative efforts, paired with two solo originals -  which both complement each other and also gives definition to their easily interchangeable electro aesthetics.

Opener “E-Motions” might fall into what you would traditionally recognise as an immediate classic lo-fi house flavour: resonate electric keys, clanging house beats, playful lead, a soulfully unrecognizable vocal hook. Or as we like to call it “melodic nostalgia”. It’s all there and sets the mood (sic) like a butt print on your couch - familiar and welcoming.

UrbnMowgli goes solo on “Cocco My Love” and glides between breakbeat and house patterns with splashes of soul flirting in the corner with some sweet italo lead arpeggiation. It’s that gelato flavour you always order cause you can’t simply stop licking. Go ahead, you do you, man.

There’s no conspiracy that Moodrich’s follow up “Deep State” goes.. erm.. Deep? But it still brings enough in the way of motorik riddims, euphoric backing vocals and a healthy dose of acid bassline to likely get at least 2 out of 5 RA podcast hosts lens cleaning & chin-stroking in semi-approval. 

EP closer “Astral Journeys” reunites these Berlin buddies on a dreamy chugger that feels too fast, yet slows the feels right down. This is music for dancing around your kitchen with a glass of wine, while you have a pasta bake in the oven, under the glow of those christmas lights you decided to put up 5 months before the actual holiday season. Pour yourself another cup of E-Motions. You deserve it.
