A few months ago, I did a freestyle for the God Dr. Dre's Pharmacy show on Beats 1 radio, which was played on the show and rang off online upon it airing. That being said, I decided to formally release it on the 'net for you all, being that it's one of my favorite freestyles (which by the way was completely off the top, no writtens or lines from the tuck), with some of my favorite bar work, over one of my favorite beats. This month, he teams up with underground legends Planet Asia and Tristate for “Trophy Case,” a super soulful and buttery joint, which boasts both Spiffler’s production and rhyme skills. TriState sets off the three man relay with a 16 that stays glued to the beat like a slalom course. After the sample rocks for a few bars, Spliff steps to the mic dropping bars from his third-eye with raps like, "Flourite on the gold chain and let it cool my chest/ Bitch I’m Chakra Khan, they see my aura beaming through my chest.”  To complete the trifecta, PA Medallions delivers a rewind worthy verse, abound with similes, metaphors that can “communicate with dolphins and whales.”

One of those artists, Steve Spiffler, is a California native whos music has roots in an eclectic mix of regional Hip-Hop & soul music of yesteryear. Hailing from Stockton, CA, the multi-talented Hip-Hop artist encapsulates the independent artist of the internet age. Not only does he pen his own rhymes, but he produces, engineers and even shoots his own videos. Being the best is his goal and he views his contemporaries merely as competition that he needs to stay one step ahead of. His first mixtape "American Fly" was a great introduction to a growing artist who's gears never stop grinding.
