Sunday mornings should start gently but build to an orgasmic frenzy of ecstasy, don't you agree? So with that in mind, to create the perfect morning dance journey I started with some warm and mellow classic soul, building through funky nu disco & afro beats into a pumping progressive house vortex with a few twisty curve balls thrown in to give the sweat soaked dancefloor some softer waves of respite.. Throughout all 21 genres represented in this mix not a single track is less than stellar! Rise - Ecstatic Dance @ Pyramid

As the island goes into full lockdown we go back to the underground for this month's edition of the Pure Phangan radio show.. a secret word of mouth event at a hidden jungle venue for friends and committed dancers was the setting for this 2.5 hour voyage through some of my favourite colours of the sonic kaleidoscope! Kicking off with some Emerald soul, slinky Forest, languorous Leopard, then building to an Ultraviolet climax before taking you down smoothly with some Velvet chill.. Enjoy the journey!

Pure Phangan Vol 4 - Lockdown Getdown

Recorded live at a raucously fun party in the mountains of Northern Thailand, this special New Years Eve mix features my top 20 tunes of 2021, covering a range of genres from deep tribal Afro House to pumping Progressive and as the dance floor energy was exploding around the midnight hour I dropped a smile inducing selection of some of the greatest classics from years gone by.. This set was recorded on a stormy afternoon in Bambu and feels like a return to the original Phangan vibe, reminiscent of those beach parties in years gone by when speakers blew up because of heavy tropical rain, but the music was so good that everyone just kept on dancing anyway through the downpour. Enjoy two soulful hours of beautiful warm electronic grooves to uplift your spirit and energise your earthly self on the wettest monsoon afternoon, kick off your shoes and dance through the storm!

No doubt, the most epic birthday ever and what better way to celebrate it than throw down a 5 hour set! As Bambu Huts proudly reached it's one year milestone this auspicious date just happened to fall on my own birthday so clearly it was divinely necessary to bring everyone together in a a joyful celebration of life, connection, music, dance and creativity..

I won't ever forget the moment when I stopped the music halfway through my set and requested that everyone sing one song together, not something you'll see everyday in a DJ set! I really wasn't sure it would work, perhaps I would be singing all on my own, but in that moment something beautiful happened and there were suddenly hundreds of us singing 'What A Wonderful World' in harmony :)

No coincidence that I chose this song, which I ended the very first ever Sunday Session with, on New Years Day 2023 and has always been one of my all time favourites. This whole set is an uplifting journey featuring lots of Bambu favourites from the last 6 months, so I hope you'll enjoy it as much as we all did on the day, a truly epic party that will live long in the memory and here is captured for all of you, forever...

The Sunset Session Vol 1

Recorded live at Bambu Huts on Feb 4th 2024, this is my afternoon set as I opened the portal for our incredible guest DJs Chus and La Santa, who absolutely rocked the house in the night time! This daytime mix starts off from a place of total stillness as I wanted to set a peaceful tone after the insane high season of the last weeks, before building through some emotive and beautiful organic and afro house, featuring a lot of tracks from the excellent Redolent label run by our special guest Chus. An unforgettable night ended with the three of us jamming together on the flightdeck of the Bambu spaceship and an unbelievable vibe on the dancefloor, this was one for the history books!

Slinky, sultry sunset vibes are what's on offer here, kicking off with some deep grooves that build from organic and afro explorations into pumping progressive and uplifting house, before culminating in a furious melodic techno peak, as the dancefloor was on FIRE that evening! New Years Day 2024 was a very special occasion as it marked exactly one year since the first ever Bambu Huts party, it's hard to believe it's only been 52 sundays since we opened.. so much has happened, so many great memories already that it seems like a lifetime! 

To commemorate this milestone I played a timeless set of my very best musical gems, personal favourites, island classics and deep, sexy house music all the way.. This was an unforgettable night in the Playgirl Mansion and the perfect way to welcome in the new year and celebrate all we've achieved in our first cycle around the sun!

On a gorgeous April evening I stepped onto the flightdeck at sunset and an unbelievable energy was on the dancefloor at Bambu, so I knew I had to bring my best.. This high energy mix features some of my favourite tracks of 2024 so far, from the likes of Space Motion, Artbat, Silver Panda, Moojo, Temper Trap, Andhim and many more. The entire crowd had hands and fans in the air by the end, an unforgettable moment, one of the best parties we ever had full of love, vibes & togetherness!

Why Bam Vol 3 - The Chillout Session

Rumours were abuzz on the island.. word on the beach was that the mysterious Eggnut was to be the special guest DJ flying in to close the mythical secret festival known as Magic Beach. As a close personal friend of Eggnut I can reveal that he did in fact parachute in from his orbital satellite home, telepathically controlling the decks throughout the descent until crash landing right into the DJ booth wearing a ridiculous hat consisting of spinning disco glitter painted nuts that was hand made by a gaggle of gorgeous beach goddesses. He then blew the festival away with Rachmaninov level keyboard chops played live on a toy melodica over a mindblowing 3 hour set of blazing sunrise beats and beautifully layered soundscapes with a one eyed pirate rocking the egg shaker and TwinZilla rocking the mic . Sometimes things just go right.. after a long year travelling non stop I was finally back on my favourite beach, for the inaugural Colours of Love festival and Why Nam had never looked more magical. Lasers sparkling amongst the coconut trees, new friends and old dancing in the moonlight, glittering mermaids swimming in from a phosphorescent ocean and phenomenal fire performers thrilled us all while I played live piano singing into the skies, calling us into a higher vibration of love and cosmic connection..

Why Nam Vol 8 - Colours of Love

To celebrate this milestone I always planned to upload something special- so to mark the tenth instalment of Why Nam recordings I went through all 20+ sets I played in Thailand this year and chose this one as my favourite. An epic 6 hour journey that joins the dots between chilled acoustic beachside jams, mysterious forest rhythms, irresistibly funky techno and full power progressive house. Like the ocean tides that inspired it, the sound follows inward spirals of expansion and introspection, building and falling, but always moving forwards through genres and moods. If you were on the beach that day you experienced the most joyful and ecstatic Why Nam party of all time, which culminated in the entire dancefloor jumping, whooping and jamming with live drummers, live piano, live vocals all contributing to an energy filled explosion. What made it even more special for me personally was that for the first time my mother came to one of my DJ gigs, not only that but she danced like an absolute professional for the whole set! I don’t mind saying I had tears of joy by the end of what was really a special and unforgettable night. Fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride...

My farewell gig in Thailand was the final edition of what have been magical parties week after week all season.  As Juliet says to Romeo ‘Parting is such sweet sorrow’ and this set is a heartfelt goodbye to my favourite beach, which this year has been a cradle of creativity for me to experiment with adding live piano, vocals and various instruments to my DJ sets. As it was a particularly long 7 hour journey (!) I decided to split the upload into sections this time starting from complete stillness and a heart opening mantra, building gently through layers of drifting piano, acoustic gems, some classic sunny jazz and reggae, before warming up into the sunset dance. Thank you to all the beautiful dancers who lit up the beach in the last months, you are my inspiration and it has been an honour to soundtrack such joy and expression.

Deepest Winter

Losing my virginity in terms of playing an Ecstatic Dance event turned out to be a really interesting experience and quite different to my usual gigs. Only having two hours to craft the type of journey that would usually take me up to 8 hours required some precise attention to track selection and mixing, as my intention was to take the dancers on a flowing and seamless cinematic voyage from an atmospheric and sensual warmup, into an hour of full on ecstatic dance music that culminated in an emotional and relaxing conclusion. Judging from the reaction of the dancefloor, which literally exploded at one point, I think it was a successful foray into a new world and I’m sure I’ll be playing many more of these in the future.

Ecstatic Dance

The first week of the new decade we were blessed with a powerful full moon lunar eclipse in the hypersensitive sign of Cancer (which happens to be my own zodiac sign) so there was a lot of transformative energy swirling around on the island. I wanted to mark this occasion with a set of beautiful, introspective and emotive music which would provide the perfect soundtrack for contemplation of the awe inspiring moon that rose above the still waters of Why Nam whilst we danced on the sand beneath, so enjoy this unique journey which begins with an ambient mix of my own composition Islandia 'We Are One' and slowly builds through some foresty deep organic jams to a climax of melancholic but euphoric remixes of Radiohead, London Grammar and Hans Zimmer. Why Bam - Vol 1 (Part 1)

All these years coming to Thailand and somehow I never managed to be here on my birthday, but due to the global pandemic all summer gigs in Europe got cancelled so the silver lining was getting to spend this special day in my spiritual home of Why Nam for the first time! Apologies for the people who asked if they could make requests but I had to tell them today I'm going to play all my favourite choonz and that's exactly what I did. So this joyful, uplifting mix is packed full of Why Nam favourites along with brand new future classics. Not even the rain storm that swept in could stop the momentum of this party- we just moved the sound system inside and carried on for another few hours with an intimate sweaty packed dancefloor in the restaurant.. What a night, what a birthday, what a beginning to the next chapter of this legendary beach party..

Why Nam Vol 16 - ReBirthday 2020 (Pt 1)

The second part of this epic journey of a set that I can barely remember, it being my birthday and all! Around midnight an enormous tropical thunderstorm broke over the beach and we had to break down all the speakers and lights and get out of the torrential rain, suddenly the entire beach full of people was packed into our tiny sweaty restaurant, I set up old school Why Nam style sitting on a beanbag in the corner with 2 speakers and a sub and the party carried on with even higher energy whilst the lightning flashed outside and the rain poured down. The last hour of this set I play some of my all time favourite tunes from years gone by, the golden classics that have soundtracked some of the most euphoric moments of my life.. A very special weekend where the three legendary parties of the Tri Bay area joined forces to create a three day mini festival, culminating in a memorable sunday evening closing jam at Why Nam.. Any thoughts that the crowd might be a little tired after a long weekend of dancing were quickly dispelled when I kicked off this set in high gear and the dancefloor fuse was lit right away and didn't stop burning for the whole 6 hour set.. Euphoric, high energy house music is how I would describe this mix, which barely pauses for breath until a few hours in when it takes a turn into deeper territory before gathering steam for a pumping finish, so put on your dancing shoes for this one as it's a banger!

Why Nam Vol 18 - Winter Solstice

An artist with a difference, Stevie Keys is an accomplished DJ who draws on his classical background to perform live piano over his sets, as well as a renowned producer with a history of releasing house music going back 20 years. You might not realise it but if you’ve been on a dancefloor in recent years you’re likely to be familiar with Stevie’s production as his original tracks have been released on some of the hottest labels around, licensed to over 100 compilations worldwide and supported by the world’s biggest DJ’s, such as Carl Cox, Pete Tong and Armin Van Buuren.

Born in Australia and always obsessed with music, Stevie Keys first trained as a classical pianist, before moving on to study sound engineering and completing a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. By the age of 18 he had a record deal as a solo artist and had performed all over Australia, supporting artists such as Bjork and The Prodigy on their tours of the Southern Hemisphere.

Moving to London at the age of 19 he went on to record under various artist names including Antartica (for seminal UK dance label React), Altitude (Bonzai Records/ Sony), Sound of Soho (with Eye Industries/ Universal) and Tremor (for the influential Progressive House imprint Platipus).

Some career highlights include cowriting songs with legendary artists such as Nile Rodgers & Bernard Summers, remixing for the likes of Sia, R Kelly and James Holden, hosting a weekly radio show on DI.FM (one of the pioneering internet stations for electronic music) compiling and mixing compilation albums such as The Art of Chill (Sony) and producing several underground club hits that broke into the UK singles chart and were subsequently licensed to major labels such as Sony and Universal.

Now resident in Koh Phangan, Thailand which is famous for the Full Moon Party but is also becoming a popular destination on the international DJ circuit. In 2015 he created the now legendary Why Nam day party, before moving on to found Bambu Huts, which is fast becoming one of the most popular music venues in Thailand. 

Finally settled in this tropical island paradise after years of travelling the world, Stevie Keys is the resident DJ/ musical director of Bambu Huts, where he created The Sunday Session in 2023. This weekly event quickly established itself as the premier party on the island and is famous for having a distinct & sophisticated sound focused on afro, organic & deep house. Here Stevie plays extended sets with live musicians every week alongside illustrious guests such as Chus & La Santa (Redolent/ Stereo Productions), Djuma Soundsystem (Iziki Global), Igor Marijuan (Akasha Ibiza), DJ Ino (Cafe de Anatolia), Rezident (Anjunadeep) and many others.
