After Altamont, the mysterious live band alias of Stavros Potamitis and Constantinos Parisinos, return to Inside Out Records with a truly collaborative EP, “Elektriki Rembetologia”. Rebetiko briefly can be described as the urban popular song of the Greeks, especially the poorest, from the late 19th century to the 1950s, outlawed and driven underground during the Ottoman Empire. Rebetiko grew out of particular urban circumstances. Often its lyrics reflect the harsher realities of a marginalized subculture's lifestyle. Thus one finds themes such as crime, drink, drugs, poverty, prostitution and violence, but also a multitude of themes of relevance to Greek people of any social stratum: death, eroticism, exile, exoticism, disease, love, marriage, matchmaking, the mother figure, work, war.
After Altamont set a psychedelic, theatrical, hypnotic journey throughout the album. They fuse slow hypnotic grooves, analog electronics and traditional Greek musical instruments for their interpretation of the known Mpournovalia and Tha Spasw Koupes, featuring original vocals by the incredibly talented Dunja Botic. The third track Aspra Xwmata is an original song which includes a virtuoso original Greek bouzouki improvised solo and spoken vocals by Anna Maria Harokopou, a very influential music personality in the Athenian Electronic Music Scene. The albums psychedelic journey is strengthened by beautiful remixes from Lamusa II, Steve Pepe, METAMAN (WonTon Records) and Anna Disclaim.

We always try to bring you the musical patterns which touches our musical fibers, and this is no exception.

Our beloved brother and label regular Stevie R and partner in crime Cumiks are in charge of bringing one hella of an EP; a five tracker to be exact. Having no other than Kiki (B-Pitch Control) supporting the release with a strong remix. The label’s strong musical ammo Patrick Podage and Nikolas Noam are also behind the remix duties.

First original and the name giver of the tales of 12 name giver comes Wake Up (Original Mix). This track sets the pace for the EP, lovely, rich and deep. Full of never ending melodic backgrounds with a shopped like vocal all-around which gives it depth and richness. The main synth lines add a handful of interesting characteristics to the tune.

Wake up (Kiki Remix) uplifting and happy, Kiki sticks with the melodic bass line and keeps the original’s main lead, giving his take a after the first 32 bars a complete twist. A well-known Kiki attribute.

Wake Up (Patrick Podage Remix) has a percussive take on the original. Keeping the flavorful vocal intact, Patrick adds his bass line recipe and gives it a pump without leaving the melodic touch.

Wake Up (Nikolas Noam) kicks off with a bell synth sound giving it a completely new touch. Fresh and uplifting, yet deep and interesting. Low end synth sounds echoing around and the shopped vocal give this remix a cool musical attitude. The breakdown of this tune has a pitched controlled synth that makes it unique, opening a gateway for a long and perfectly timed brass line which gives it a new edge without steering away from the main idea, kicking back to the main track hook .

And to complete this five tracker we have Stevie R and Musicoleptik. The foundation of this tracks comes from Stevie’s melodic background kick off with a long bass line sound giving it a very inspiring momentum. The guitar sample blends in nicely giving it a soothing feeling. Stevie and Musicoleptik add Stevie’s signature sound here and there to give it a special touch. A really good way of completing an EP.

Stevie R & Cumiks - (Wake Up Original Mix) [UJR027]

‘Egal’ is one of the most exceptional recordings on the Sum Over Histories catalogue - a collaborative effort by Stevie R & Parisinos and the Swiss singer-songwriter Ellivia. Sung in German, this song explores themes of detachment and yearning, reflecting the complex ebb and flow of human relationships. Psychedelic space disco, analog synthesizers, and cultivated through rare moments of inspiration in the studio.

Stavros Potamitis (aka Stevie R) conjures emotion and weaves sonic tales by combining the rebetiko folk music of his Greek homeland with analogue electronics. Working with a range of collaborators he offers forward thinking, avant-garde music and daring, theatrical live performances that freely blend and cross over between musical styles. As well as being a musician, producer and performer, Stevie is a lecturer at Point Blank Music College in London, runs his own record label Inside Out Records and is A & R of Chapter 24 Records. Always looking to push musical and sonic boundaries, he is just as relentlessly focused on moving things forward in his own work as he is committed to supporting the next generations to break through.
