On ACEN026, we welcome Endless Mow back to All Centre. Following his debut Possession Chamber EP and appearance on our 2nd Anniversary Compilation, Endless Mow delivers two club-ready tracks on spellcasters. Title track spellcasters opens with two infectious vocal samples before making way for a heavy percussive workout, alternating between rolling breaks and infectious UK funky rhythms. Dark stabs alternate with deep, penetrating subs whilst an entrancing plucked string melody weaves in and out of the mix.

Romance me kicks off with a captivating vocoded drum pattern, underpinning a robust, broken rhythm as piercing, siren-like synths enter the mix. Half-way through, captivating ethereal strings enter the mix, bringing the track to a euphoric peak, before making way for another driving percussive section and re-entering at the track’s close.

Fresh on DISCHI is Maruwa and Younger than Me’s Prometeo. Both based in Germany, respectively in Frankfurt and Berlin, the two exciting DJs and producers join their creative forces on this short but mighty three-tracker. Lovers of prog-house, trance and 90s sounds, Maruwa and Younger Than Me deploy their vast array of influences with this dancefloor-oriented project.
Prometeo is a classic ravey, prog-house tune, masterfully layering element after element to keep you wondering what’s coming next. So Cool kicks it up a notch, bringing in hard-hitting kicks, a bouncy bassline, and a magnetic voice sample. On Return of the Reptilian, the producers take the listeners to more technoid realms, working entrancing repetitive loops that immediately get you in the zone, and on your feet. Two powerhouses add their distinctive sound to the remixes. Australian DJ and label head Mabel twists Prometeo with her signature sassy bass sound, adding a new sultry, almost hypnotic dimension to the track. Finishing of the project is  DJ Babatr, king of Raptor House and legend of the Venezuelan scene who injects his mastery into So Cool, with a fierce, trance-inducing rework.

Coffintexts makes it a perfect hat-trick with her third release for Clasico – a submarine-deep pair of tracks from our regular Miami correspondent.

A sequel of sorts to last autumn’s ‘Todo Mi Cuerpo’ / ’88 ST’, these new tracks dial down the tempo but turn up the atmosphere. “It’s deeper, and dreamier than the last two tracks I released on Clasico,” she says. “Felt right to follow up with something along those lines.”

A-side ‘Mas Fina’ steps out with dubbed-out vocals, sonar bleeps and stuttering snares - club music for the bottom of the ocean, or at least for that moment in the night when everything feels a bit detached from gravity. It’s one of those tracks that feels simple on the surface, but reveals extra detail and submerged layers with every play.

B-side ‘Vamos Al Club’ ups the pressure: it’s Coffintexts in pumper mode again, with pitch-shifted hats, cheeky woodblocks and a wriggling bassline made for fogged-out rooms. Vocals come from fellow Miami resident Le Poodle. “I made the beat first, then reached out to Natalie to see if she had any vocals lying around. I chopped up some of the recordings she sent, and boom – it sat perfectly on the beat. Love her voice.”

The pair first crossed paths through mutual friends Paperwater back in 2017. At the time, Alex and some other local artists would pull all-nighters in Airbnbs and studios around Miami for makeshift writing and beat sessions – and you can hear that ease and chemistry woven into these tracks.

As for where these tracks belong? “Like 4-5am in a medium fogged out room – could be a club, a house party, even a Getty" (that's a get-together for the uninitiated). "Everything washed in a soft red light. Everyone’s still dancing, it’s that in-between moment where the night’s turning into morning.”

“These two beats are meant to capture a feeling. A moment that felt right in the studio. I’m excited to share it, and see how it connects with people.”

After three years and numerous club events, festival showcases, vernissages, and DJ workshops, we want to give something back: We are proud to officially share our first compilation with you. A compilation by FLINTA* Artists - as a tribute to the years of support we have received and as a sign of the visibility and also achievements of the community. We are pleased to announce that Layers will now also be a music label for FLINTA* producers and artists.

As a kickoff, a total of 11 artists will release nine tracks on our first compilation (LAY001). All proceeds generated by the compilation will be donated to GLADT - an independent self-organisation of black and colour of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, trans*, inter* and queer people who have teamed up to offer workshops, counselling and awareness raising in their respective fields.

The percussive pulse of dance music, particularly the kick drum, exhibits a curious parallel to contemporary socio-political dynamics.  The kick drum's rhythmic rise, that anticipatory build-up preceding the drop, can be interpreted as a sonic representation of the escalating tensions inherent within current societal structures.  This cyclical pattern of tension and release mirrors the collective anticipation of societal shifts, reflecting a desire for resolution within the socio-political landscape.

The kick drum itself acts as a microcosm of revolution. Each beat signifies a momentary disruption, an assertion against the prevailing sonic quiescence.  This resonates with the dynamics of social movements, where individual voices coalesce into a collective demand for change.  The rhythmic insistence of the kick drum further amplifies this analogy, mirroring the persistent push for progress despite systemic inertia.  The subsequent "drop" in dance music, the moment of cathartic release, becomes analogous to the desired outcome of these socio-political movements: a palpable shift, a tangible change, a sense of collective unity.

In considering T-Pain's "Up Down," a hypothetical modification of the title to simply "Up" presents a compelling thought experiment. While "Up Down" captures the oscillatory nature of societal progress, the singular focus of "Up" offers a more potent message of unwavering forward momentum.  By eliminating the "Down," the revised title eliminates the implication of regression, suggesting a relentless pursuit of advancement. In the context of the current socio-political climate, this unyielding focus on upward trajectory resonates deeply, offering a powerful sonic metaphor for the pursuit of positive change.

Dusty Dan's "Up Up," in its titular evocation of ascent, directly addresses the perceived incompleteness of T-Pain's "Up Down."  While T-Pain's track acknowledges the oscillatory nature of progress, "Up Up" opts for a singular, unwavering trajectory.  By focusing solely on the upward movement, "Up Up" captures the essence of the kick drum's socio-political resonance: a persistent striving for positive change. This sonic affirmation of continuous ascent acts as both a reflection of current societal anxieties and a hopeful anthem for future progress, offering a potent response to the cyclical nature of T-Pain's "Up Down."  "Up Up" posits that, despite the inevitable ebb and flow of societal forces, the overarching trajectory should always be towards a higher plane.
