There can be no denying Sergio Muñoz, aka Fur Coat. Now a native of Barcelona, his Venezuelan roots are a reminder of South America’s ever-increasing contribution to the world of electronic music. The fact he has, and continues, to be at the forefront of this Latin surge is testament to his skill and creativity.

It’s also the reason why his relationship with Renaissance continues to endure. With three singles and an album to their collective name, they now join forces once again to present the diverse Dystopia EP.

Dystopia itself is the definition of everything a title track should stand for; a heady mix of Fur Coat’s consistent ability to marry a memorable riff with effortless, production cool. “My intention was a catchy hook that played along with the sub bass,” he confirms, “evoking the classic Renaissance era, but with a modern, yet timeless vibe.” 

To ensure every drop of creative juice was wrung from the track, Sergio and Renaissance invited Musumeci and Dodi Palese to remix it in their unique, indie style. “We were instantly drawn to ‘Dystopia’s’ infectious riff and specifically wanted to celebrate that element,” they explain. 

The EP is completed by Solitary Road, which shifts a stylistic gear into the world of electronica. “It’s been great to see the return of atmospheric breaks in recent years and I really wanted to produce something that would be a worthy entry into the genre,” Sergio humbly explains, “so my focus was once again on the all-important melodies with detuned chords and catchy riffs.”

It's full of energy with the energetic synths envelopment and enigmatic vocals over the breakdown which could certainly please the ears and make a great reaction at the floor. 'Old Dreams' is calm, thoughtful and it perfectly summarizes the release.

Astral Records caps off a successful first year by welcoming Arshiyazi and Adoxa to the label for their debut EP. Hailing from Iran, Arshiyazi and Adoxa have been deeply entrenched in the world of melodic house and techno for the last two years. Although at the beginning of his production journey, Adoxa has already notched an impressive offering via Songtradr, where his astral techno sounds paired with GeniusP for a stunning seven track showcase. Now adding Astral Records to his resume, Adoxa pairs with Arshiyazi who is on the cusp of his first ever release. Together the duo presents their 'The Host' EP, alongside remixes from Paul Anthonee and My Flower.

Working perfectly within the label's sonic profile are the arcane sounds of 'Your World'. Backed by a warm yet punchy groove and tight rhythms, its fluid drive quickly becomes infectious. Mystical vocal elements paint a compelling narrative as the first takes shape, while wonky synth phrasing and icy atmospherics offset each other nicely. Sitting at the heart of the track is a cavernous interlude where the vocal lands in greater prominence, flowing through a maze of sonic artefacts onwards to a tasteful drop and meditative finale. The companion piece 'Ecorche' finds the duo flexing the electronica side of their studio repertoire. Smooth and rhythmic in all the right ways, indistinct vocal fragments and plush tones blanket an underbelly of broken beats and elastic-like hooks. Building an emotive narrative across the first act, placid pads descend over the framework with a heartfelt glow, perfectly setting stage for an impassioned interlude and goosebump worthy finale.

The lone interpretation of 'Your World' is provided by label A&R Paul Anthonee who returns for his third appearance. The Cyprus based producer has the distinction of delivering the inaugural Astral Records offering earlier this year with the release of his 'A World Beyond' EP. August then saw Paul return to the label with a well-received remix of 'Remedial' by Moodayz & Areeas. Also laying claim to outings courtesy of Beatfreak Recordings, Lost On You, Parquet, Steyoyoke and Suara, Paul now returns to Astral Records with a compelling rendition of 'Your World'. Leaning closer to techno inspired territory, the Cypriot artist carves out a cavernous groove adorned with fiery percussion and electric rhythms. Building tactfully through percussive flurries and tightly wound arps, the vocal narrative eventually emerges, bringing depth, space and emotion, before giving way to a cinematic centrepiece and thunderous conclusion.

The Host EP

'Next up for the rising Desert Hearts Black label, is a big single from Darin Epsilon and Galestian. 

Following up his great release with Marc DePulse, Darin makes his return with a charged progressive groove titled “Reset.” This tune is layered with arpeggiated emotion, and just keeps climbing throughout the entire ride. Darin is such a dynamic producer, constantly showing his range, and Reset is another example of his ever expanding work.

This release also carries two exciting remixes, taking Darin and Galestian’s creation even deeper. The first comes from Fur Coat, making his debut on the label, and delivers that signature dark energy. Galestian has previously collaborated with Paul Oakenfold and released alongside Olivier Giacomotto, with music out on labels such as Berlin’s Ritter Butzke Records and Toolroom. Another big artist joins the DHB catalog with a remix, and this one brings the heat.

The second remix, rounding out the release, comes from label heads and founders Marbs & Evan Casey. Moody, melodic, and a journey driven remix taking us through the realms with some beautiful moments and shifts. Another great collab from these two here, and a big release all around for the DH imprint. Release date for this one is November 12, so stay tuned!'
