Roberto Rosso & Redson - Winning Side (feat. Lily - Jo)

Deze week komt de Erik de Mooij Band met een nieuwe single getiteld His Glory Revealed. De 24-jarige aanbiddingsleider en band uit het Zuid-Hollandse Rijnsburg gaat sinds een aantal jaar voor in verschillende (jongeren)kerken. Sinds december vorig jaar doorkruist de band het land. His Glory Revealed, geproduceerd door Rob Buis en opgenomen in TCC Studios in Veenendaal, is de eerste single die zij uitbrengen en gaat vooraf aan het worshipalbum van Erik de Mooij: A New Revival. 

“Ik hoop jongeren aan de ene kant te bemoedigen met nieuwe liederen, maar ook kerken wakker te maken,” vertelt Erik de Mooij over zijn muziek. “Aanbidding is méér dan een liedje van Marco Borsato meezingen, daar zit zoveel kracht in. Tegelijkertijd hoop ik ook mensen te inspireren om hun leven te delen met God, zoals ik openhartig ben in sommige van mijn liedjes die vanuit mijn situatie naar God toe geschreven zijn. Wat ik hoop is dat ik hen kan inspireren om ook hun verhaal te vertellen. Aan elkaar. Maar in de eerste plaats aan God.”

“Dat laatste komt ook heel erg terug in deze song,” aldus Erik de Mooij. “De boodschap in het refrein is: Open je hart, vertel God je verhaal.” 

Waarom is dat zo belangrijk?
Erik: “Door het gesprek met God aan te gaan – dat hoeft niet eens heftig te zijn, gewoon even je hart delen – kan God ook Zijn hart met jou delen. En van daaruit ga je de goede dingen doen.”

Hij vervolgt: “En vanuit mijn rol als aanbiddingsleider gezien: op het moment dat je je verhaal kunt koppelen aan een worshiplied, bestaat dat nummer niet meer uit woorden alleen maar krijgt het een concrete betekenis. Zo is dat denk ik voor iedereen. Een lied wordt persoonlijk wanneer we bereid zijn onze situaties onder ogen te komen. Dan kan een lied als Stil, mijn ziel wees stil ineens echt tot een moment van rust worden over de situatie waarin je zit. Dat hoop ik ook met mijn aanbiddingsmuziek te bereiken. Ik vind dat belangrijk om te benoemen om dat daarin ook een verlangen bij mij zit om mensen weer terug te brengen bij – zoals Matt Redman dat zo mooi zegt – het hart van aanbidding.”

Over Erik de Mooij
Naast zijn werk als accountant besteedt Erik een groot gedeelte van zijn tijd aan muziek. Begonnen in de ritmesectie in diverse koor- en muziekgroepen, zoals De Kazz-Band, en later als muzikant op onder andere christelijk conferentiecentrum De Betteld, ontwikkelt Erik zich als drummer, toetsenist, gitarist en bandleider. Vanaf 2017 gaat hij eigen muziek schrijven, voornamelijk Engelstalige aanbiddingsliederen. Nu, anderhalf jaar later, leidt hij door het hele land aanbidding met een vaste band.

Jagers van Vrede is een uniek en innovatief punkproject, ontstaan uit de creatieve geest van Jaïr Sagström, bekend van zijn werk bij Stichting Reck. Deze bijzondere band onderscheidt zich door hun baanbrekende aanpak: de muziek wordt volledig gegenereerd door artificiële intelligentie, met hier en daar een menselijke touch.

Als een AI-gedreven punkband, vertegenwoordigt Jagers van Vrede een fascinerende kruising tussen technologie en rebellie. Hun naam, die vertaald kan worden als "Hunters of Peace", weerspiegelt mogelijk een ironische kijk op de chaotische wereld van punk en de zoektocht naar harmonie door middel van disruptieve kunst.

Wat Jagers van Vrede nog unieker maakt, is hun positie als een Punkproject die in het Vlaams/Nederlands zingt, met een christelijke inslag. Deze combinatie is uiterst zeldzaam in het punklandschap. In feite zijn er maar weinig bekende christelijke, punkbands die in het Nederlands zingen, wat Jagers van Vrede tot een ware unicorn in de muziekwereld maakt.

Het project daagt de conventionele grenzen van muziekproductie uit en roept interessante vragen op over auteurschap, creativiteit en de rol van technologie in de kunsten en theologie. Door AI te gebruiken als primair compositiemiddel, verkent Jagers van Vrede nieuwe territoriums in de punkscene, een genre dat traditioneel geassocieerd wordt met rauwe, menselijke emotie en DIY-ethiek.

Hoewel de exacte details van hun muzikale output en publieke ontvangst nog onbekend zijn, vertegenwoordigt Jagers van Vrede ongetwijfeld een fascinerend experiment in de convergentie van punk, technologie en geloof. Hun bestaan daagt luisteraars uit om na te denken over de aard van creativiteit in het digitale tijdperk en de blijvende relevantie van punk als een middel voor artistieke en sociale expressie.
