A year on from their critically lauded album ‘Negativity’ and on the cusp of their ten year anniversary as a band, Deer Tick are returning to Europe where they will be touring with The Gaslight Anthem. 

To celebrate their milestone anniversary of 10 years as a band, the Rhode Island quintet have planned a six night residency at Brooklyn Bowl in NYC, starting December 26 and ending on New Year's Eve, where the band will perform five of their favourite band’s records from start to finish and culminate the celebrations on New Year’s Eve with a fan-selected set of 25 Deer Tick songs. 

The band have put together a playlist of their songs to cover their ten year existence as Deer Tick. Of the selection process, John explains:

“I think these songs do a good job of balancing the songwriting, musicianship, and restlessness of Deer Tick. They also highlight the fact that over the past 10 years, Deer Tick has finally eased into becoming a full-fledged band, with permanent members and everything!

-ABOUT THE BAND-
Smooth Hound Smith is a Nashville-based roots-rock band founded by husband-and-wife duo Zack Smith and Caitlin Doyle-Smith. Having spent the better part of five years touring around the US and abroad honing their craft, they've racked up close to 150,000 road miles, played upwards of 1000 shows, and have self-released two full-length albums. 
Sharing a dream to see and tour the world while singing and playing music, Zack and Caitlin joined forces to carve out a frontier existence for themselves that often involved playing marathon sets in dive bars in far-flung locales well into the night, and occasionally fending off lowlifes and drug addicts while sleeping in their van in Walmart parking lots in order to save money. 
They eventually developed their varied and unique style of folky, garage-infused Americana enough to catch the attention of Natalie Maines of Dixie Chicks fame, and garner opening slots for the Chicks (25 dates in the US and Canada in 2016/2017), The Wood Brothers, The Record Company, The Secret Sisters, Lindi Ortega, Anders Osborne, Frankie Ballard, and Jamestown Revival, along with coveted festival spots at Bonnaroo, SXSW, and C2C in London. Also, as an entirely independent band, they have reached over 6,000,000 total Spotify streams, with two songs, "Crazy Over You" & "Forever Cold", surpassing the one-million-stream milestone.
Despite doing the bulk of their touring as a two-piece, they've decided to expand more this time around, now often playing with a full band in order to successfully capture a more powerful sound along with more nuanced grooves.

-ABOUT THE NEW RECORD-
This new full-length album, titled "Dog In A Manger", is a project that was well over a year in the making, and is now near completion.
It is a markedly personal album that represents their musical roots, yet still seems to leave room for exploration both in sonic space as well as lyrical content; the songs run the gamut from dark and vibe-y, to greasy, swampy blues, jaunty, folk-tinged Americana, and ethereal Eighties-leaning space rock. The lyrical content touches on themes ranging from the esoteric points in a relationship that are near impossible to define, to recreational drug use, gratitude and jubilation, the current political climate, truck stop showers, and just about everything in between that the band has seen while out on the road, meeting and performing for people from all walks of life. The Smiths ran a fine-toothed comb over every musical texture, self-producing the album with mostly just the aid of a skeleton crew (they found a co-producer in musical collaborator and friend, Steve Daly, along with help from engineer Jesse Thompson, and GRAMMY-winning mixer, Chad Brown). The tracks were built from the ground up with SHS and members of the small team playing nearly all of the instruments (a guest spot from the North Mississippi Allstars' Luther Dickinson is notable on "Three Shades of Lonely")
Smooth Hound Smith revel in their "Americana" classification and enjoy capitalizing on the "catch-all" nature of the term, which allows them to flow seamlessly between genres. Both drawing from diverse musical influences, Zack and Caitlin view dynamics and album arc as necessities, as they both have a strong distaste for albums that sound the same, top to bottom. Their goal was to make a recording that sounds like your favorite curated mix tape, but is still unmistakably Smooth Hound Smith. 
The 10-track effort was recorded and mixed just blocks away from their home in East Nashville, and features nine new original songs and one reimagined cover song (Fleetwood Mac's 'Second Hand News').
