The follow-up compilation from the 10-year celebration back in 2017 continues along with the same energy that Smokin' Sessions are so well known for, offering floaty and uplifting productions with detailed beat work, along with that all-important heavy serving of lower frequencies. 
We hear some absolute classics from names such as Djrum, Geode, Versa & Rowl, Escapism Refuge, Occult, Mercy, and some newcomers to the label in the form of Marenn Sukie & Synpal.
There are 5 exclusive, unreleased tracks in total. 2 stunners from Synkro, 1 from Biome, and another 2 from Synpal.
Some seriously impressive productions throughout.

The lineage takes us right back to early works, right up until the present day, and showcases some phenomenal music.
Its unmistakably Smokin' Sessions and the tracks selected are some of the finest offerings the label has released over its extensive history.

As well as the tracks selected for the compilation, there is and smooth and delicate mix from one of the label's most celebrated artists, Synkro. The DJ mix is masterfully mixed and blended and is nothing short of pure genius.

The Session Vol.2 (Synkro DJ Mix) Clip

Honey Mango - HunRosa Remix.
I collaborated with HunRosa collaborated recently on a different ambient project, and being impressed with his sound and approach. it was a simple choice to ask him to remix a track.
HunRosa has completely transformed the piece into a dark and techy dance floor smasher by chopping up the woodwind, kora loops, Sarathy Korwars tabla, and adding techno beats. HunRosa is also known for providing low end for the cinematic orchestra, and for this remix he’s created a 3D ambisonics mix which is best appreciated on good quality headphones.

I have been listening to Synkro’s music for years, so was delighted when he approached initially asking to stock the 7” in his Stockport record store SK1 records, and subsequently offering a remix. It was this offer that sparked the idea for a remix release. Here Synkro provides his trademark rolling bass and crisp dubby beats, transforming In a Bloopy Mood into a sound system friendly heavyweight tune.

It was many years ago, experimenting with Jason Singh in his studio and on stage in Manchester venues that I was inspired to start investigating the use of electronics combined with the kora. Jason has been such huge influence in me discovering this sound that this remix comes full circle. Jason brings his genius approach to this remix creating fascinating textures, taking the original piece to a new dimension.

Massive Attack - Teardrop (Stillhead Remix) [FREE DOWNLOAD]

Berlin-based talent Sieren treats R&S Records's Apollo label to a standout four track EP titled Static Polymorphism this month. Apollo is the home of the ambient division of R&S (since 1992), housing more recently music from the likes of Square Lines, Lahun, Aphex Twin and stalwart Synkro.

Better known to friends and family as Matthias Frick, Siren occupies a day job as a software engineer at Ableton, which should come as no surprise given the impressive level of quality behind this record. Static Polymorphism is his first release since debut LP ‘Transients of Light’, which was released earlier this year on Christian Loffler’s Ki Records. Manchester producer Synkro played a key role in the curation of the EP, selecting the tracks and putting them to the test on the system at Berghain. ’Neglection’, a track you can here in full premiere today on When We Dip, offers a journey through a dream state where soft, soothing touches contrast with rasping, true textures.

"I am excited to announce 'Cosmic Bridge - Earthbase Series' a new series of releases that will showcase the more 'club' side of what we do at Cosmic Bridge. The EARTHBASE catalogue numbers will represent music aimed at the dance, whilst Cosmic Bridge's main label series will continue to examine the possibilities offered by exploring the depths of space..."
 

Earthbase begins with TMSV - a label favourite who with his past releases for Cosmic Bridge, have showcased his unique approach to 160-170 bpm music, melding tropes from dubstep, footwork and jungle with apparent ease. as TMSV, Tomas Roels has influenced a new generation of producers operating at these tempos while simultaneously being a central figure in the modern dubstep movement, where he continues to release explosive sound-system weapons.

Om unit says... "TMSV is the perfect candidate to begin our journey with Earthbase. His precision sound-design and expertise as a DJ make for a explosive mix in the studio, so we proudly present EARTHBASE01 - TMSV - 'Ego Death'."


The EP opens with 'Ego Death' - A title which gestures towards the phenomena often reported by psychonauts during psychedelic experiences, a chugging half-time workout complete with old skool dubstep elements and dizzying synth lines. The A2 comes in form of 'Nobody Asks' which goes for the jugular with a 170bpm half-stepping jungle-led frenzy complete with enourmous bass-drone and piercing drum programming aimed straight for your nearest forest rave. The B side kicks off with 'Smarter Than You' which is a thick slice of energetic dancehall junglism with some grime elements thrown in for good measure, finishing with the contrastingly mellow and spacious 'Ending One' which harks back to Cosmic Bridge's early days, taking in a loose 'wonky' feel whilst maintaining wisps of the modern jungle sound. 

All in all a well-rounded set of gear that whilst aimed for your local sound-system, works equally well in the headphones thanks to Tomas's legendary sound-design and mixing skills.

Introducing Haraket, a 5 piece from South London who are set to release their debut 12" / digital single on Melodica Recordings this Spring. The band emerged from the creative chaos of school and college bands in and around Peckham that have already given the world King Krule. This is the first in a series of releases with Melodica Recordings, with an album due next year. 
 
Haraket fuse wall-of-sound dynamics with often delicate source material, moody electronics, programmed beats and effected vocal lines. Think a post dubstep version of early Underworld or A Certain Ratio reinvented by the new digital century. 'Taint' / 'Attgo' showcases the young band's keen ear for contrast, sensuous tonal material and high drama, something that is reflected ten-fold in their live shows.


Djrum follows on from his accomplished work on 2nd Drop records with a captivating take on 'Taint',  morphing it into something special. It's moody and dark, sounding like the soundtrack of a film Noir with Hardiman's vocals appearing in a new, smoky light.

Scottish-born Stillhead produces deep electronic music. It sits stylistically between dub, drum & bass, ambient, dub-techno, downtempo, post dubstep, deep techno and bass music.

If none of that makes sense to you, then let’s just call it deep electronic music. It’s been described as both cinematic and atmospheric.
