Yulia Niko returns with another compelling contribution to her forthcoming ‘Body Language Vol. 26’ compilation, as she teams up with enigmatic UK producer Alfonso Muchacho for ‘Bad Habits’ – a cover of Jenny Burton’s iconic 1985 anthem. Out now via Get Physical Music ahead of the compilations full release on September 19, the track continues to shape the sound and spirit of one of electronic music’s most in demand talents.

Taking inspiration from Burton’s timeless vocal hook, ‘Bad Habits’ breathes new life into a classic with a modern, underground twist. At once groovy, hypnotic and irresistibly soulful, the track pairs a rich female vocal performance – full of warmth and attitude – with stripped- back, rolling percussion and a darkly polished low-end. The result is a simmering late-night weapon that pays homage to its roots while speaking fluently to today’s dancefloors.

More raw and underground in tone than the compilation’s earlier singles, ‘Bad Habits’ reflects the creative synergy between two distinct but complementary forces. Launched in 2005 by Berlin-based label Get Physical Music, the Body Language series has become one of dance music's most essential and enduring mix compilation series. Each edition serves as a curated journey, blending exclusive tracks and remixes that push the boundaries of house and techno. With contributions from luminaries like Booka Shade, WhoMadeWho and andhim, the series has consistently showcased a commitment to innovation and musical depth, influencing both DJs and listeners worldwide. Now, with Vol. 26, Yulia Niko continues this tradition, offering a fresh perspective while honoring the series' rich legacy. 

The project unfolds over eleven tracks, as she unveils a deftly balanced selection that plays like a nuanced narrative. It moves from the effervescent, sun-warmed piano house of ‘So In Love With You’, through to the nocturnal depths of ‘Bad Habits’ – a reverent yet freshly dark reimagination of Jenny Burton’s ’85 anthem, co-produced with Alfonso Muchacho – before arriving at the skeletal, hypnotic minimalism of ‘Just Just’; a deft reworking of a Rework classic.

Central to the compilation’s identity is the never-before-heard ‘Takina’, a collaboration with Alexey Union and Kinky Sound that crystallizes the collection’s ethos. Here, the trio build a layered soundscape that is at once muscular and atmospheric, weaving taut grooves with shimmering melodic detail and careful injections of ethnic instrumentation that add an organic, textured edge. ‘Takina’ is a moment of clarity - a track where the dancefloor’s kinetic energy is distilled through a lens of emotional depth and technical sophistication. What better way to welcome the New Year than with a bang? That’s precisely why we once again got the extraordinary Edu Imbernon on board to follow up on last year’s outstanding ‘Mystery Inside’. On ‘Leopard’, Edu teams up with Barcelona residents Los Suruba and the vocal talent Daniel Wild to dazzling effect. 

The original mix kicks off the A-Side with shuffling rhythms and atmospheric pads that make way for a beautiful synth bass-line, echoing bells and Wilde’s sensuous voice, driven forward by a sharp snare. Striking a perfect balance between restraint and euphoria, we are invited on a dreamy musical journey that arrests both, body and soul. 

On the flip, things get colourful on Boy Next Door’s remix of ‘Leopard’ as neon disco chords lighten up a deep bass-line, while Wilde’s vocals are given ample room to work their magic. Last but not least, Sascha Braemer & Dan Caster create something entirely different by pitching down the vocals, replacing the original’s synths with enchanting guitar loops and steely high hats.
