LOW QUALITY PREVIEW

Techno’s inimitable duo Super Flu unleash a massive remix package from last year’s critically acclaimed album Halle Saale. Featuring a wealth of like-minded creative souls, each reversion adds a whole new narrative to Felix Thielemann and Mathias Schwarz’s distinctive tales.

Formatik founders Format:B take the lead with a genuine anthem-in-the-making. Taking the chugging smoky soul of “Me Roar” and injecting it with a blistering synth sound that pays homage to the mid noughties, their riff-heavy remix surges with emphatic electric command.

Next up are two wonderfully contrasting remixes of “Jo Gurt” from DJ Koze and Stephan Bodzin. The former applies an off-beat wasp-like bassline that revs like a super-charged motorbike and hums with harmonic vocal prowess. The latter, meanwhile, strips the vibe back to a starker, star-gazing experience that gradually rebuilds in an epic way that only Bodzin can nail.

Martin Waslewski follows with a stately take on “Fibi Maybe”. Having emerged last year on Gold with the massive “Sunburn/Mooburn”, here we find the new talent eschewing the original’s slapping rhythm for a straight up stomp while retaining every dreamy, emotional and organic nuance.

Finally Andhim bring us to a sensual sonic climax. While the original drove forth with a slow and steady hypnotic kick, here we find the Cologne creatives adding a subtle breakbeat swing. Peppering us with psychedelic flourishes and oceanic textures, it conjures the same sensations Andrew Weatherall captured on his Primal Scream productions. Comparisons don’t get much higher than that really.

Five beautiful reworks from one incredible album, Super Flu’s attention to detail isn’t just found in their music, but in their label output and remixer choice, too. This really is a very special release.

Vincenzo releases his first single of 2015, the beautiful “Around The Sun” featuring vocals from Cari Golden. A highlight from his recently released fourth artist album, ‘The Vanishing Years’, it’s a fine example of Vince’s refined and melodic sound. 

Growing from a warm intro of drawn out bass notes and mysterious vocals from Cari Golden, a slow-burning groove takes over, deftly accompanied with subtle chimes and shimmering atmospherics. Vincenzo takes it up a gear after the breakdown, with riding hi-hats and an epic falling melody.

Swiss duo Animal Trainer have been making waves over the past few years with releases on Stil Vor Talent and Poker Flat, and give “Around The Sun” a clubby re-rub, retaining the powerful melodies and vocals of the original and adding some edge to the percussion.

Vincenzo’s own ‘Rising Sun Mix’ strips away the vocal and leaves us with the an extended minimal take, layered with rising drum rolls, swirling melodies and deep low end, ebbing and flowing for 9 splendid minutes.

The melodies start soft and delicate before voodoo screeches rear their head alongside thick, bellowing bass strikes.

Few people bring a truly original sound to house music. At a relatively young age, Hamburgs Martin Stimming did just that, demonstrating a sophisticated yet accessible sound that is beyond his years.

Two years after hooking up with Solomuns Diynamic Music, his 2008 breakthrough hit Una Pena made the electronic world sit up and take notice, and before long acclaimed labels like Freerange, liebe*detail, Buzzin´ Fly, Green and Poker Flat were snapping up his work. 2009 saw him release his immaculate debut album Reflections to great acclaim, cementing his reputation as one of the most exciting new producers of his generation. 

His second album, Liquorice, eschews the normal kick-clap/snare template by and large to explore more interesting and progressive territories, but always with that trademark magpie-like sense of texture, emotion and discovery. 

His productions are filled with a multitude of his own unique, charismatic field recordings, and he never uses the same sample more than once. 

2010 saw him pick up an award for Best Newcomer at the Ibiza DJ Awards, following on from his live show (Stimming does not DJ) stunning the crowds at the islands legendary Pacha, and the finest danceries around the world Πfrom Berlins Panoramabar to Sao Paulo´s D-Edge, Brussels Fuse, London´s fabric and Paris Rex, and plenty more beyond. 

Remixes for the likes of Sascha Funke, Claude VonStroke, Deadmau5, Stephan Bodzin and Tom Novy to name but a few have further spread his influence amongst the discerning house and tech community, and cemented his reputation as one of the scene´s most exceptional producers.

Clearly, Martin Stimming is a precious talent indeed. But then again, not everyone loves liquorice...
