Starting out in 2001 to tie up some loose ends from our regulars, SPEICHER has since become a guarantee for vanguard dance sounds from all over the planet, allowing KOMPAKT to invite and support electronic artists that comfortably inhabit both the delicate and the more deliberate ends of the electronic music spectrum. For SPEICHER 85, Amsterdam-bred floor charmer and producing mastermind PATRICE BÄUMEL presents two highly effective techno bangers that will become the weapon of choice for any discerning DJ looking for momentum.

Color-coded in juicy red, SPEICHER 85 features smoldering new material from none other than PATRICE BÄUMEL, one of the most revered resident DJs and techno innovators from Amsterdam's iconic, but sadly defunct Trouw club. Starting out in the mid- noughties, he has earned his production stripes on labels as diverse as Trapez, Get Physical or Systematic, with his latest highlights being last year's stellar remix for GusGus' OBNOXIOUSLY SEXUAL (KOMPAKT DIGITAL 044) and the label solo debut on SPEICHER 81 (KOMPAKT EXTRA 81), a raw and energetic offering that turned out to be a mind-bender carving out its very own definition of a hookline.

A relentless sonic adventurer in both studio and club trenches, Patrice knows his peak time by heart, having developed quite the understanding of the fluctuations of the crowd before him. You can hear that straightaway with a-side cut LOWRIDER, a clattering minimalist groover with maximum impact, vetting helplessly stuck floors with a surge of adrenalin-fuelled percussion and the occasional synth roar. The b-side's THE VANISHING presents itself as an equally hypnotic affair, albeit with a different angle - this time, we find a true melodic meltdown monster whose epic vocal break will leave no roof or hand unraised. With records like these, we've got no worries about the sheer, animalistic power of techno.

"One Saturday in February I was having an amazing night playing at Oval Space in London. In the middle of my set I dropped '1-4 Doctor C'est Chouette'. A fan came up to the DJ booth to ask me what I was playing. When I told him it was one of my new tracks, he replied - to my surprise - 'There's so much melancholy in this track, what were you thinking about when you made it?' His question struck a deep chord: he had understood what I was feeling when I made the track - isn't that what music is all about? But did I really have to tell him the story? It wasn't the place or the time to get into a deep conversation, so I simply smiled at him to thank him for his enthusiasm. 

There are times in our lives when we should dedicate a little something to people or places that are important to us. This is what this record is all about: just to say I love you, I miss you or just simply thank you."

Few people bring a truly original sound to house music. At a relatively young age, Hamburgs Martin Stimming did just that, demonstrating a sophisticated yet accessible sound that is beyond his years.

Two years after hooking up with Solomuns Diynamic Music, his 2008 breakthrough hit Una Pena made the electronic world sit up and take notice, and before long acclaimed labels like Freerange, liebe*detail, Buzzin´ Fly, Green and Poker Flat were snapping up his work. 2009 saw him release his immaculate debut album Reflections to great acclaim, cementing his reputation as one of the most exciting new producers of his generation. 

His second album, Liquorice, eschews the normal kick-clap/snare template by and large to explore more interesting and progressive territories, but always with that trademark magpie-like sense of texture, emotion and discovery. 

His productions are filled with a multitude of his own unique, charismatic field recordings, and he never uses the same sample more than once. 

2010 saw him pick up an award for Best Newcomer at the Ibiza DJ Awards, following on from his live show (Stimming does not DJ) stunning the crowds at the islands legendary Pacha, and the finest danceries around the world Πfrom Berlins Panoramabar to Sao Paulo´s D-Edge, Brussels Fuse, London´s fabric and Paris Rex, and plenty more beyond. 

Remixes for the likes of Sascha Funke, Claude VonStroke, Deadmau5, Stephan Bodzin and Tom Novy to name but a few have further spread his influence amongst the discerning house and tech community, and cemented his reputation as one of the scene´s most exceptional producers.

Clearly, Martin Stimming is a precious talent indeed. But then again, not everyone loves liquorice...
