C-Rock is Frankfurt native Christian Rindermann, a seasoned DJ and house music producer. At a young age, C-Rock knew that his career choice would either be music-making or football (soccer) but music had a much bigger draw. “No endless running sessions and no stupid training routines!”, says C-Rock. This certainly proved to be the right choice. Over his long and adventurous career, C-Rock has moved from humble beginnings, approaching his first set of nightclub decks in 1989, to become one of the heads of the ’90s Frankfurt house movement.

C-Rock’s musical preferences and influences are many, underlying exposure to a wide variety of sounds in his early years. His DJ sets and productions owe a debt to the early work of Curtis Mantronik and Kraftwerk, mixed with Chicago house, disco and the strong influence of the European electronic body music movement. Despite the different influence streams, C-Rock simply calls his style “house music” – plain and simple.

C-Rock started hitting his stride in 1994 with his debut 12″ on Playhouse and his almighty “Funky Dope Trakk”, accompanied by the formation of his own long-running imprints stir15 and lofi stereo. It was also during this period that C-Rock was able to hone his DJing talent by throwing legendary events together with Ricardo Villalobos and Yannick (Needs). House- and Techno nights with legends like Chez Damier, John Acquaviva, and Carl Craig led to residencies in clubs like Monza and Box.

In 1998 C-Rock released his debut album Track & Feel on his own stir15 label. Hailed as a milestone in the evolution of ‘new school’ German house music, the album received high ratings in SPEX, Groove and de:bug magazine. This was followed by a growing international demand for C-Rock as a DJ as well as collaborations with the likes of Swayzak, Ricardo Villalobos, Sven Vaeth, and Chris Duckenfield (Swag).

The new millennium saw the birth of a new project. Founded by fellow citizen DJ Matthias Vogt their Motorcitysoul collaboration entered the new century with a loud bang (and more than a few kick drum booms). Albums and singles for INFRACom!, Simple UK and stir15 were universally acclaimed as well as more recent singles for renowned labels such as Freerange and Ibadan. Motorcitysoul also found time to collaborate with Chez Damier on a stir15 single under the moniker of Kids In The Streets.

Besides his Motorcitysoul work, C-Rock also joined forces with further house heroes in the likes of Brett Johnson, Sasse, Sascha Dive, Chasing Kurt and Neville Attree (aka Further). He was also one of the resident DJs of the famous megaclub Cocoon Club in Frankfurt where he shaped the musical appearance of Sven Vaeth’s club-spaceship for more than seven years until the venue had to close. However, C did not stop there and continued with his residency for the legendary Pracht and the Frankfurt Ist Bunt events (together with Alex Azary, Mengi Zeleke and Sia Sanei). Travelling through space and time… House Music – state of mind!

GOING DEEPER podcast vol. 2: DJ Ino "Back In The Days" Mix

So I left home the other night – bad vibes, negative energy. Trying to shift my focus back to something positive, I decided to return to the studio. I already had a little setup prepared and wanted to record a new mix anyway… then this happened:

Out of the blue, after about 20 minutes of checking some tunes I wanted to include (I definitely wanted Ernestos / Jonatan Bäckelie’s latest gem in there), the whole thing just took off. I hadn’t prepared all the tracks or checked the transitions beforehand – it was just a rough pool of tracks that jumped out at me that night and somehow caught its spirit.

It’s probably not my tightest mix in terms of perfect sync or harmonic layering, but it feels like one of the mixes that goes deeper into myself, my soul, my world. Without planning it, I ended up picking tunes by artists I’m happy to know or at least to have met in life, on or off stage. I remember that radio show with Robert Owens in Frankfurt, the nights with Luke & Jamie (Jimpster) in Frankfurt and Madrid, and of course our Motorcitysoul collab with Jonatan aka Ernesto.

The 2011 Deetron tune was (and still is) one of my signature tracks this summer. At first I didn’t want to include it – felt too obvious. But this slammer literally forced its way into the mix on the fly. The tune convinced me to take it along for the journey. Thanx, Sam (Deetron)!

So here we go… a short journey and fusion of house, techno, soul, and a touch of jazz. One hour of a very special mix. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I do.

Ahead of its forthcoming compilation “House Of Riviera” Mona Musique releases a sampler EP that contains three tracks selected by label manager @NickV , taken from the golden age of Italian House Music, two of which are exclusive to the EP.

Side A is “I Have Got It” by @RickyMontanari and Davide Ruberto under the alias Riviera Traxx, a moniker shared with various other Riviera producers. Released in 1997, this is the only track that is out of the 1991/1993 time scale that the compilation focuses on, standing alone thanks to its tough hypnotic drum beat and diva vocal stabs that are very reminiscent of the Junior Vasquez NY Sound Factory era. This was initially featured on Riviera Traxx 4 in 1997, the fourth and final release of the cult “Riviera Traxx” series on legendary Italian label Irma records.

On the B side are two cuts that are typical of the deep and emotional vibe of classic Riviera House productions of the early 90s. Firstly @Ivan-Iacobucci, Fabrizio Cini and Nicola Dragani deliver “Tribal Love” under the name of Anxious. Initially released in 1992 this was the B side cut of the Saxample EP the first release of Hole records one of the first underground House labels in Italy run by @Ivan-Iacobucci that enjoyed over 30 releases over the 10 following years. Subway Ground Master complete the release with the superb “Queensway” taken from their only ever release in 1992 on Calypso, a sub-label of Irma records.
