The owl is an archtype of one who sees the actions and intentions of those who live under the veil of darkness. Those who committing to their desperations and desires are witnessed by these eyes, whether they accept it or not. These quiet ones, these owls, are those who carry the message from one fringe to the other, carrying a dense, unempathetic wisdom and a practice unbeknownst to the ones who hide, maybe even to these owls as well. I am one of these owls.
Being an exile not only a condition under the concept of law, but the concept of culture. I was born in a culture that assumed an exile of me, and under that idea of paying penance and solitude, I took flight. My family is an exception to the rule of the "foresteros"--the outsiders. Despite the demand for a long yet frail discrimintation, we are accepted under certain conditions and flourished despite our sensitivities and our exhaustion. Yet, I have continued this tradition of being an outsider for a reason I have forgotten, only to have recently understand its toll. The few people I connect with are rare and those who remain in my life are fewer. This is for many reasons, yet recently it is out of a means to get rid/avoidance of a familiar desperation. This reluctance to empathy has turned unto myself. I can only fathom what my ancestors had beared in solitude and silence, much as those of others and that of my friends and acquaintances as well.
With this, I will confess my desperations, under the owls name of a mother-tounge, for it is perhaps the first in my lineage who gets the chance to hum and able to look back over generations, landscapes, languages, and quiet traditions etched throughout memories both embodied and slowly forgotten. This is for all the "foresteros" whose sensitivities guide their souls, for whom I loved, resonated, and alienated, among my family, friends, and strangers.
This album is dedicated to those whos brillant faith help them sail among the waters in night's veil, and to those owls who help them. May our failures be shared, but our victories celebrated.
