We are proud to present ‘Undercurrents’, the third series of compilations featuring artists from the 3024 Mentoring Program.

Started in 2020, the Mentoring Program run by label owner Martyn has become a worldwide online and IRL community of artists sharing resources, ideas and inspiration. This compilation showcases the wide range of fresh and amazing music that is continuously surfacing from the program, unbound by strict genre definitions.

Besides a collection of new music, Undercurrents is also a consideration of what a record label can be in 2024. Whether it’s a platform for repurposing old material, providing daylight for new sounds, artists or even entire communities, or injecting new ideas about authenticity and sustainability into the current of the underground, rather than partaking in the unwinnable race over algorithm dominance. An understated approach for maximum impact.

We are back for year three of Wanderers! This episode marks the beginning of yet another set of amazing guests to provide us with sonic journeys, starting off with an episode that has been a year in the making: a tribute to the discography of Yamaoka.

Once a duo, Yamaoka is now (since 2007) the solo project of Hokkaido based Kenichi Oka. Since the 90's, the Yamaoka project has released over 140 works, including over 30 12" records and even more (over 40) on the coveted CDR format, on international labels from all over the world, including the Netherlands.

This episode has been in the making for quite some time: I stumbled upon the music of Yamaoka through the Databloem label at the start of 2024, and was captivated by the beautiful layers of synthesizers and an almost iconic stacking of delays in a lot of the Yamaoka tracks. I got into contact with Kenichi, and we decided that I would mix my Yamaoka favourites as a tribute to the vast discography.

This episode will also be made into a promotional CDR in Japan. More on that soon!

Hosting Wanderers every other sunday: Wanderers is a mix series that focuses on the transportive aspect of sound, inviting artists that have a strong affinity with this aspect to wander the rich plains of sound, in whatever direction they want to go. The goal is to create a diverse, imaginative and adventurous collection of journeys and stories, in which one could get lost and discover endless new things. It also functions as a platform for artists to create and discover in the process of making an episode. Streaming on @microwavelive every monday after.
