The purr of the engine
The scratch of the seat
A few dimly lit signs
Along dimly lit streets

But further than this
I just cannot stretch
So they’ll be chewed fingers and bruised arms
And some vague inner strength

We all know stepping out from that bar
From a forest of friends
Would be an unpleasant affair

The warmth of the evening
Sounds of traffic outside
Occasional foxes
Throw their strange cries into the night

Customer service
Kept repeating our names
As if we were still you and me
As if nothing had changed

A pointless procedure
There would be no refund
And no change of passenger name
Just an empty seat on the plane

So I’ll close my eyes and I’ll wait
And I’ll hope that things change
When I open them they’re still the same

and I’ll point out the shining signals from your past
