While composing the song, it occurred to me: "What if you opened this door to this room from outside, where you have lived, worked and pondered for years, and you met yourself? See yourself sitting on this leather chair in front of the desk." Would you tap yourself on the shoulder and ask: "Are you awake?" The middle part of the song is about this absurd idea... Locking the door again, he continues to work at the wooden desk, oblivious to everything around him. Sometimes he looks at the window and thinks: "What was that just now?" Trapped in the room, feeling safe, but alone, wallowing in thoughts and memories. Until the day dawns...

This ‘listening’ is set in the near future. 

Because governments passed legislation for far too many laws in the past which either ended up being abused by the general public, or completely unenforceable, governments then changed tact and made everything a crime and made every single law enforceable instead. 

As you can imagine, this imposed huge burdens on the existing judicial system, police and prison service. So, to alleviate this, these systems and services were then authorised by the government to go out to private tender instead.  

With a private judicial system, police and prison service firmly in place, supplemented by huge fines, the only growth industry in the country was in construction. That is, in the construction of prisons and detention centres, furthering a total abuse of power perpetrated by these so-called 'private' institutions.

This ‘listening’ is an interpretation of that future and, as with many of my spoken word offerings, comes as a warning.

Hello. I go under the name of Mouse. I've dabbled in and out music for many years, but I have only now got to the stage where I'm taking it a bit more seriously. I try my best to play music in a tuneful sort of way and sing songs in a hummable sort of way. I hope you like my songs and spoken word 'listenings', and you are always free to comment. I might not like all your comments though, but at this stage of my life, I'm just too old to care.
