Southpoint: Introducing (Series 2)

The Phat Controlla first made a splash on the label last summer with his take on ‘Ignited Flows’ from BBC Three’s UK Rap Game Champion - Graft. Exactly a year on we welcomed him onto the FNG series for his first official release with a four-to-the-floor speed garage warper channeling his inner northern roots for ‘IMSONORF’. After a #1 on Juno and amassing support from DJ EZ, DJ Q & Shosh (Kiss FM) amongst others it only seemed right to get the UKG prodigy to deliver a VIP with a more heavy-handed touch from his signature speed garage roots.

This time round, we've gone 100% Bass for the 7K free giveaway, with old and new heads combining. Sekt-87 brings his Speed Garage flavours to his track 'Trouble' to kick off proceedings, with Mattik returning to In:flux Audio for the first time in a while with his wonky take on Bassline that we love on his GTA inspired 'Grove Street'. The final two tracks on the release head into Mutant Bass territory, with Hurtdeer's 'God Eater' sampling an angry Nic Cage to great effect and Teotek closing it out with his rip roaring track 'My Cartharsis'.

With 'Introducing', we love nothing more than unveiling brand new talented artists. The latest is Weagle, a futuristic garage producer who's style we fell in love with as soon as we heard it. 'Don't You Know' is a techy garage roller driven by high pitched choppy melodies and tidy drum parties, perfect for injecting a little dosage of energy into the dance.

At Southpoint, we constantly try to ensure that we are doing enough to support our local Brighton music scene where an entire hive of producers and vocalists reside. With that being said, Brighton producer Jake Compton makes an explosive return with 'Inversion', a track which combines colourful moog-slapping bass LFOs with some incredibly eerie atmospheric soundscaping and industrial percussive lines to string together a club-ready roller.

Following on from a pair of super well-received releases, we are absolutely thrilled to be welcoming back the constantly evolving sounds of Henry Wallis, a producer we are loving having involved with the 'Introducing' platform. With his previous features behind him, he goes all out on this latest piece entitled ‘Believe’, which sees him switch up the flavour into a more UKG inspired bassy stomper, fuelled by abstract vocal manipulation, colourful harmonic structures and groovy drum riffs. It’s the perfect soundtrack to any summer evening.

As the Southpoint sound continues to evolve and grow over time, we are seeing more and more experimental producers make their way to the forefront of the roster, with one of those acts being the dynamic duo of Cortese. 

Following on from their spectacular debut on the 'Introducing' platform with 'Marble Arch', they make their return with another incredible creation by the name of 'Paul', drawing together mature, colourful soundscapes with smoothly layered drum breaks.

At Southpoint, we are proud to represent so many different areas of underground UK dance music, with so many different elements now being thrown into the melting pot. The label's roots lay in grime, however, which is why we are so happy to be welcoming a brand new Brighton-based grime producer who goes by he name of El-Laurie. He arrives with a tailslide as we unveil a war-ready creation by the name of 'Foot Soldier'. It's a fantastic introduction to the team as El Laurie perfectly fuses the swampy bass textures of new school dubstep with raucous reese bass leads and super choppy drum textures, unleashing some serious energy into the dance.
