WE ARE sooooo thrilled to introduce @maey-aemzet today. 
mæy (she/her) loves to dive into hypnotic sounds – either combining psychedelic dub, chillout, downtempo & organic house or enjoying some psychedelic techno with trance, minimal and
zenonesque elements.

How did you get into DJing?
Around 2017/18 I tried "Virtual DJ" without any access to equipment or people to share it with. Some time later, in 2020, @zmuth taught me. Then I borrowed @apesimian's old controller
and practiced and experimented a lot until I was able to buy a small one of my own. I played my first gigs in a collective context.

Where do your inspirations come from?
From a lot of things inside me, like feelings, memories, wishes etc. interacting with influences from outside like my environment, conversations, what's going on in the world and so on.

Where do you like to play or make music the most in general?
Sometimes I really like to just play at home, without any feelings of nervousness. But I love the interaction between the crowd’s energy, the location and the music I play...My favorite place
for psydub/downtempo has been a quarry near Halle.

Did you have any particular thoughts about your podcast?
How many great people I got to meet this year and how adventurous and beautiful the last
open air gig was.

What was your first recording?
Tape recordings of fairy tales and then my first (also self-burned) music-containing CD was by Las Ketchup - The Ketchup Song (Aserejé).

What memories do you have of your music lessons? Would your teachers place you in the music club industry today?
Mixed feelings. I do remember very dedicated and comparatively open-minded teachers and cool audiovisual projects with friends...but also too much focus on classical music and little
room for creativity, singing in front of others and watching a lot of movies. Because my teachers only know me with classical instruments in the school orchestra or singing in the choir, they
probably wouldn’t locate me in the club and event scene.

What would you like to change about the music scene if you could? / What would you like to see in the future from your audience, the club culture?
I would like to see more reflection in general, as well as within the music and event scene, and for criticism to be met with open-mindedness. I would like to see existing power relations &
realities being questioned (e.g. access and opportunities) and people informing themselves (or being informed in trainings) about the different dimensions/ types of sexism, and ultimately more engagement for change - so that eventually everyone can feel comfortable and more safer spaces for e.g. exchange, inspiration and mutual empowerment emerge.
