The city was silent and sleeping, only restless beings roamed the streets during the twilight hours. Night time hid a multitude of sins, secrets remained so during darkness and activities of the devilish kind were never frowned upon. But in the cold light of day, the traces of debauchery remained and the fears began to seep in.

In September Atlanta-based producer and musician Stranded released his new album ‘Midnight Sun’, coinciding with the relaunch of his label Double Phantom Records. On one of the featured singles ‘Fallen’, which comes complete with a special video created by Richard Vergez, he moves away from the darker side of his productions and into dreamier realms. Blending elements of dream pop and trip hop, he channels some of his formative inspirations into the breakbeat-driven groove, from 90s Primal Scream to Spacemen 3, Spritualized and Andrew Weatherall.

The accompanying video is made up of found footage and collages that compliments the dreamy sounds, conjuring up a likeness to the imagery of Adam Curtis.

In Certain Times, when the world was shrouded in an eerie stillness, an inexplicable phenomenon known as the Double Phantom gripped the land. It was a phenomenon where, naturally, nothing seemed real anymore.

The Double Phantom was an occurrence, casting a disorienting spell upon everything it touched. Shadows became tangible, whispers echoed twice, and reality appeared as a blurred reflection of itself.

In the heart of this perplexing enigma, a lone wanderer found themselves trapped. Their existence felt fractured, caught between two worlds, forever teetering on the edge of comprehension. Time lost meaning, and their own reflection became a haunting apparition.

In their struggle to escape the clutches of the Double Phantom, the wanderer discovered a hidden strength—a resilience born from the depths of their own uncertainty. Through sheer determination, they pieced together the fragments of their fractured reality, defying the unnatural forces that sought to engulf them.

And in the end, the wanderer emerged from the Double Phantom, forever changed. They carried with them the scars of an otherworldly encounter, a testament to their unwavering spirit amidst the chaos of certain times when naturally, nothing could be taken for granted.

"Vacant Spirits" is a hyped up nervy, psychedelic post-punk song filled with paranoia and yearning. Spiky guitars and moody vocals ride on top of an energetic beat that doesn't let up until the song is finished. You get the energy of Clinic mixed with the moodiness of Interpol in a tight two and a half minute explosion.

Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia in the United States, Stranded’s material blurs the lines between post-punk, house and nu-disco resulting in an amalgamation of sounds and something unexpected. Here we see Stranded deliver their latest works, entitled the ‘Post Meridian’ EP, via Brooklyn’s HOMAGE imprint, the ever-evolving imprint which often shines a light on undiscovered talents and obscure sounds from across the globe in many different pockets of electronic music.
Title-cut ‘Post Meridian’ leads, laying down shuffled drums, noodling strings, funk-infused bass and vintage synth sounds alongside hypnotic vocal lines. ‘Cherry Fortune’ then shines a light on Stranded’s post-punk, new wave influences with woozy guitars, elongated bass tones and washed out vocals. ‘Yesterday’s Silence’ follows, bringing things back to the dance floor via a swinging drum groove, spiralling guitar licks and intricately unfolding synth and vocal
work. Fellow Atlanta based artist Stefan Ringer steps up next to rework ‘Post Meridian’, stamping his own twist on things with dusty drum sounds and enchanting synth work ebbing and flowing around the heart of the original. ‘Glass Shock’ shifts focus over to gritty guitar tones, fuzzy vocals and bumpy drums next before ‘Canal Breaks’ then completes the package, embracing a contrastingly downtempo aesthetic with snaking bass grooves, surf rock-tinged psychedelia on the guitar elements and as the name would suggest break driven drums.
