The idea of the 13 Mooncycle Mix is based on the natural time phenomenon. Within the system of natural time, it takes the moon 28 days to orbit the Earth; it makes this orbit 13 times each year. Each of the 13 moons possess unique characteristics, the purpose of then of the 13 Mooncycle Mix is to use each moon as an inspiration. Come each 28th day, INI invites an artist to curate a mix for the new moon, giving them total creative freedom to interpret, signal or share whatever they so desire to as a homage to uniqueness of each moon.

For our 3rd edition of the 13 Moon Mix, we are pleased to have the dynamic duo, Strange Boutique, take us on a sonic trip. Do put on your intergalactic space suit, for ignition sequence is about to start. As the moon rises, the needle drops, our interstellar music voyage begins. Strange Boutique, in putting together this mix drew inspiration from the sense of rebirth, ever so present around us. In spur of inspiration, the duo has stitched together a peculiar 48-minute piece. In the mix, astro-coptic liturgy is interwoven with persisting chugging beats, mechanized rhythms is paired with lush syths, sounds of distant stars and drones compliment neo-Arabic soul – the familiar and unfamiliar are fused. Resulting from this fusion, just like the birth of a star from the vast stellar gases and molecular clouds, we emerge with an awaken sense of ourselves

Moon & Sun is the work of Swedish songwriter and visual artist Monica Tormell. Influenced by lonesome, gloomy atmospheres and Caribbean tunes her music sets out to explore sonic constellations from the primitive to the
electronic and manipulated. Last summer she released her first album 'The Wild Things' whose cover was designed by Strange Boutique's own Nicole Martens!
The 19th of November sees the release of the Wild Things remix EP for which we remixed the lovely 'Salt &amp; Indigo'. Joining us in exploring the world of Moon & Sun and the sister planets are Prejka, Gaerra/Ken Ood, General Mustafa, Mats Björk, Flummig Mulch and Gavin Russom.

Sinchi & Friends 35 - is the Dutch duo of Femke and Nicole known as @strangeboutique . A regular fixture on Amsterdam's Red Light Radio with their  Tuesday Night Prayer Meeting Show and connoisseurs of unique and rare music. We were delighted when they accepted our invitation to join the series and this is what they had to say..

'To us a mixtape reflects our current mood and interests. 
The way they are put together is a very intuitive process. We react on each others individual selections and try to build a story that is not based on beats but on atmosphere. The purpose of a mixtape differs in that sense from a club-set and allows you to dig a bit deeper musically.  Its a very different type of listening experience'.

1) Who are you?

Strange Boutique are visual artist/designer NM | Nicole Martens and curator Femke Dekker. Used as a label for their various collaborative projects since 2009 — whether in fashion, art or music — Strange Boutique is a playground for two opinionated, kindred spirits. As Strange Boutique, they exhibit a fondness for all things strange and ethereal, seeking out both the obscure and objects hiding in plain sight.

2) What have been your highlights from the last 12 months?

Our first ever release; a limited edition 10” called ‘Eva Crane’. 
The track Eva Crane saw the light during a trip to our friend, artist and musician Christelle Gualdi who lives in Antwerp. This was three years ago and the track had been lying in a drawer ever since. So we were very happy to finally set her free. 

‘Eva Crane’ is an evolutionary audio–visual project, where we ask friends and artists we admire to make a remix, rework or interpretation of Eva and we subsequently turn it into new visual work ourselves.
The very first edition was launched on Oct. 20 2016 in collaboration with the Amsterdam design platform fanfare, as  part of their ongoing project Parallels of the Equator. 

3) What do you have lined up for the coming year?

More installations where we combine our love for music, spatiality and spirituality. More sit down DJ sets would be very nice. More musical exchanges with friends hopefully. More plants around us.
