PANTERNOISE is a DJ, producer, singer and ballet dancer based in Berlin.
After acquiring xher first keyboard in 1987, Panternoise’s flame for music was ignited. In xher later years, this love affair evolved into hours of diggin vinyl, mastering analogue synthesizers and two band projects. Over the years, xhe has refined xher signature sonic sound. Panternoise.
Xher sounds are a fractal universe of industrial techno mixed with dark-/new-/ minimal-wave influences, bridging the gap between 90s underground techno and contemporary hard tech. A synergy of trippy and ethereal voices find their way in-between harsh baselines transporting the listener into a mind-bending realm, stretching deep into the abyss beyond time and space, like ballet poses to techno beats.

June 2022 marked the exact 30th anniversary of German/Belgian Patrick Stevens (°1973) project hypnoskull which was started in 1992, rooted in the aftermath of the first wave of industrial music but as well in the humid warehouses of the early techno scene of the nineties and the underground stages of harsh noise. One of the pioneers to combine industrial music with techno resulting in legendary releases on the German cult-label ant-zen, numerous live performances all over the globe in iconic clubs like CBGB’s New York, Rex Paris, KitKat Berlin and cities like Moscow, Beirut, Los Angeles, Chicago and so on, this one-man project, sometimes expanded with artists and performers from contemporary dance, theatre and film, is as unpredictable as the ideology behind it: a lo-fi, harsh, monotone assault of political thoughts, subversive rants and sheer emotional outbursts towards a society first questioned, deconstructed, destroyed and left behind without a solution or a better plan. Music as a weapon and as well as a tool for self-dissection. In recent years, hypnoskull got acknowledged by lots of producers and artists in the field of industrial techno, resulting in releases, collaborations, remix work and production for many of the big players in this genre.

For this podcast, hypnoskull selected a number of brandnew tracks and releases as well as some forgotten old gems. Crossing every possible border of whatever written and unwritten rules of whatsoever ‘scene’ or subculture, this mix fiercely shows what it is still about for Patrick Stevens, after 30 years of producing, playing live and deejaying, as he states himself: ‘I get claustrophobic when I witness how the techno scene became lately. Techno became the soundtrack provided by good looking boys and girls who strive to make their business plans come true, in clubs that degraded themselves from laboratories to corporate boxes of emptiness. That’s why I selected both some radical memories from tracks and styles which were once as well played in the clubs, and some brilliant music by new, young and emerging producers. Belgium is as well coming back from a low, especially in the city of Brussels, where plenty of astonishing producers be them Belgians or expats gather and create a new wave of exciting electronic music as we speak. That was a long time ago. They’re in here as well by the likes of Maltash, Elaina Vierce and Raum. And Paris as well, check Age of hate, ZNZL, Prophän,… There’s a great connection between both cities also. I truly believe great stuff will happen again very soon.’

After a few years hosting events, djying,  and exploring music production, based in Brussels and Argentinian born artist Elaina Vierce, has released two digital EP's during the past year, and is currently working on new material to release. 
For the occasion she brings us a mix full of the obscure textures that have become her signature sound over the years, combining rare releases , unreleased, fresh released, and to be released tracks that will soon see the light.

Which artists has influenced you the most? What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future? Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now? What inspires you now to create music? What set-up do you use when creating music?

Lots of really good labels are constantly working to launch new artists, and sounds. When searching for new music, what I  find exciting and interesting  is that there are more and more collectives that release producers whose creativity and techniques are outstanding, but also, putting a special intention on diversifying the scene, an approach that is very necessary. The list is extensive, but you'll find a few in the descriptive tracklist of this podcast. 
Of course, this inspire me aswell when it comes to composing. At the moment I'm working on a new EP, alongside playing live sets -a constant creation- some projects in collaboration, and some by myself. As for set up, well, that changes often, but mainly drum machines, drum synth and effect pedals. 
I still play very rhythmic DJ sets as well, mostly techno and electro oriented, but i get exhilarated when I hear that distinctive element that makes a track or an artist unique, regardless the genre, so I can't help myself to throw in unexpected surprises sometimes when mixing.

Glasgow based Kenny Campbell has gained a reputation for delivering hard hitting sets whether they are techno, industrial, EBM or old skool hardcore. In recent years he’s been a regular at Drøne in Manchester as well as playing all over the UK, Europe and as far aIied as Sri Lanka. Running the label Pitch Dark Records, initially with Alex Mullen and now on his own, has seen the label go from strength to strength, with releases being supported by many A list names. As a producer he achieved his life long dream of releasing on Industrial Strength Records.
