Mahalia feels different from the other girls in her ballet class. Hoping to boost her confidence, her mother brings her to get her hair straightened for the very first time.

You enter a maze. It's pitch black inside. You hear voices. You feel your gut being called upon. Then a clearer, strong voice is heard. A second clear and strong voice follows. This is when you understand you have to follow their calling to find your way out of the maze. A third clear and strong voice follows. By now you've unconsciously walked to another part of the maze. The three voices are singing in unison, you're swaying and turning, and the shadows that first appeared dark are now iridescent light beings. You continue following your gut and the voices. The path opens up, and you are now surrounded by light, but somehow still in the maze...Or are you? You pay attention to the words. Suddenly, another voice sings "I did that, I did that", the sky is suddenly over your head, chants are heard, you see dancers around you in a field and you join the celebration. You're moving through dimensions. A storm begins, and then you wake up.

Strange Froots is a duo of singers-songwriters, musicians and beatmakers, comprised of Mags and Naïka Champaïgne. These 2 young women were brought together under NoBad Sound Studio to participate in a potential women-run workshop, in the hopes of encouraging more girls and young women to express themselves musically in an environment dominated by the male gender. What was supposed to be a series of music workshops, turned into the forming of a band, each member being an artist in their own rights.
Strange Froots is the coming together of different backgrounds of the same Black diaspora (Haiti, Senegal and Ghana) as well as drastically different musical influences, to convey the message that everyone should embrace who they are no matter where they're from or what they're going through, because in this life we are all fighting our individual battles, and even forget that others are fighting as well, but that it shouldn't keep us from living our best life while we can.
