Matthias Meyer returns with the second release on his Strangely Enough label, the sumptuous two track EP, 'The Choir’, released on 28th of January.

Following Matthias Meyer's hugely acclaimed ‘Sweet Ease’ / ‘Hybrid Society’ collaboration with Budakid on Watergate Records which reached No.1 on Beatport Indie Dance and was accompanied by Matthias Meyer touring worldwide, ’The Choir’ EP showcases the Berlin-based artist’s trademark diverse and eclectic sound, whilst brimming full of emotion and energy.

The deep and stirring title track ’The Choir’ is a highly original and mesmeric opener whose centrepiece is a euphoric, yet poignant church choir refrain which shimmers and pulsates throughout, beautifully deployed alongside the tougher edged beats which drive the hypnotic cut. This truly remarkable track is certain to become a highlight of DJ sets over the coming months, whether played at a beach party in Mexico, or in a stadium arena concert. 

’Touch Of Magic’ complements ‘The Choir’ perfectly, as ‘80s inspired synths and glitchy beats move up a tempo, whilst the choral elements are softened alongside addictive stabbing percussion and sparkling, cascading chords.

Meyer’s debut label release, ‘Strangely Enough’, was released in Spring 2021 and included support from RÜFÜS DU SOL, Solomun, Sasha, Adriatique, Rampa, and James Grant, amongst others.

For the third release on his Strangely Enough label, Matthias Meyer presents exciting duo Come Closer with the beautifully atmospheric ‘Journey Begins’ EP, released on 25th of March.

Following Matthias Meyer's previous two releases on Strangely Enough, his acclaimed recent EP ’The Choir’ and last year’s ’Strangely Enough’, with ‘Journey Begins’, Matthias Meyer showcases other unique artists with a similar sound palette and varied style to his own.

The EP opens with the stunning title track ‘Journey Begins’. The delicate chimes and percussion take the listener on a magical journey. This is accompanied by swirling synths which continue to build throughout and are joined by sumptuous strings and a mysterious vocal sample which cuts in and out, alongside majestic choral elements. This is followed by ‘Changes’  - a dreamy, shimmering cut perfect for sunset DJ sets. 

The highly original and hypnotic ‘Do You See This’ closes the EP perfectly, featuring a poignant vocal deployed alongside the stirring chords and glitchy, fragmented beats which pulsate and trickle throughout. 

Come Closer is comprised of well-known Producers and DJs Mike Spirit and Asaga, connected through their early works released on Highway Records and other labels. The duo formed Come Closer to present their own vision of the deep, progressive and organic house sounds.

With Matthias Meyer enjoying a fantastic year, the in-demand Berlin-based Producer & DJ revisits the debut release on his Strangely Enough label, with emotional and powerful remixes from acclaimed producers and friends Guy Mantzur & Tamir Regev, Amine K, Urmet K, and Forty Cats, released together on 29 July. 
 
Each of the producers have added their own special touch to the ‘Strangely Enough’ remixes to ensure an exciting variety of updates which are perfect for this summer’s busy festival and club season. From the Guy Mantzur and Tamir Regev’s poignant peak-time reworking, to Amine K’s two deeper, yet magical remixes. Urmet K delivers a stirring update ideal for sunset sets, whilst Forty Cats takes her version into atmospheric and progressive house territory. 
 
Matthias Meyer said: “’Strangely Enough’ is an important track for me and the reason I started the label. Whilst everybody loved it, it didn’t fit on any labels. I wanted to have some new, playable versions for this summer. Guy Mantzur is one of my favourites and he really transformed it into an emotional banger. Amine K has been a good friend for around 10 years and his version is less straight, but has some wicked melodies. Urmet made a nice, deep and soft All Day I Dream kind of version. Forty Cats’s update is also really nice. It has more of a proggy vibe, which I like to play out too.”

The EP’s three tracks were all recorded at different times of the year, which is reflected in the mood, music and sound.

Opening track, the uplifting ‘Glory’, is the perfect summer track which evokes warm, balmy evenings, early dawns, and dancing open air from dusk to dawn.

The invigorating and experimental ‘Chuvak’ is inspired by spring and the re-awakening of nature after winter, with the nocturnal birds returning from Southern Hemisphere countries, and the rhythms of the night becoming louder and more captivating, as the sun starts to rise earlier.

Finally, the dreamy and aptly titled ‘Wonderful’ evokes autumn and nostalgia for the passing summer. As leaves fall on the street, the evenings become colder, and people start to seek warmth from the fireplace.

Eponymous first EP from the renowned eclectic producer drops March 9th

Revered for his mesmerising DJ sets and uniquely memorable productions, electronic artist Matthias Meyer expands his range further, launching his new imprint Strangely Enough.

The label will be a platform for his own diverse sound explorations, while releasing special collaborations with some of his favourite producers – names to be announced soon.

‘The label allows me to explore different realms of production with added freedom,’ Matthias says. ‘In my DJ sets, you find lots of different elements, from deep house to breakbeat, hip hop to trance. I want to include these aspects in my productions going forward. Unique music but still deep, with lots of energy.’

Strangely Enough’s eponymous debut release is the epitome of Matthias’ vision, showcasing his varied musical palette.

The title track combines a dark vibrant groove with haunting vocal fragments. A powerful weapon in expert hands, this cut sits in that indefinable space between the dance floor and the after party, heralding those legendary moments in Matthias’ long afterhours sets at his Watergate residency or in far flung lands from the Sahara desert to Bahrain. Catchy from the off, ‘Fantazy’ continues the theme of refusing to commit to just one style, going from breaks to driving house, with an almost defiant emotive breakdown.

Strangely Enough is the long awaited label project from Matthias Meyer. As an artist Meyer is renown for his storied, emotion laden dj sets, regularly linking multiple genres with considerable aplomb.His new moniker is an effort to transmit this recognisable style to his musical productions. From deep house to breakbeat, Meyer will indulge his varied tastes all the while keeping it under the umbrella of his distinguished style.

The label kicks off with two original productions from Matthias himself, Strangely Enough and Fantazy.

The title track Strangely Enough is a quintessential Matthias Meyer effort. Combining a dark, vibrant groove with haunting vocal snippets, it perfectly encapsulates his mission for the new imprint. As a composition, it sits in that indefinable space between the dance floor and the after party, a powerful weapon in the right hands.

Fantazy, the B side of the EP, follows no fixed form. It is a jaunt from breaks to driving house with an emotive breakdown which prompts thoughts of escapism from the structures of modern music. It is often remarked that fantasy is the creative measure of a man, and in this cause that assertion runs true, with Meyer showcasing his wide musical palate.
