Not Your Average Mix-Tape of Love Songs

As usual, a raw recording of a riff that I come across and thought positively about. I used my DeLonge Squier and RP155 pedal for the heavy distortion. I think it sounds pretty good considering the set of old computer speakers I used as an amp.

For some reason I've found that I really love the sound of my guitars when played directly thru my el cheap-o effect pedal into an old pair of computer speakers plugged into the headphone jack. I can't, so I won't explain why. It just is. It's how I've done a good % of what I have uploaded to soundcloud. I only hope someone enjoys this stuff somewhere.

Devil`s A-Comin` (Epi - LP2)

Like a modern day Tom Petty, I can take 3 chords and whip them up into a super catchy riff that will stick in your noggin like a Post-It note super glued to duct tape. Or so I tell myself. 

Actually, I just love hearing myself play these 3 specific chords and the countless different arrangements they make possible. And because its easy. 

She Talks Too MucH

The recording quality seems extra poor even for my ghetto set up. I also broke trend and used my Epiphone Les Paul instead of the usual Stratocaster of varying foreign origin. Switching from one Strat to the next merely gives me a wide range of tones and different sounds to choose from without effecting my playing style. They may all look the same except for their colors but each Strat was made in a different factory, in a different country, in a different decade. So the 2 year old Les Paul was a nice change of pace tonight... even if the music still hurts your ears.

I See You There

I'm not sure where this came from or why it is here for display. I like (most of it) . Like the part where my wife is choking in the background. And the generic drum loop that I picked. I hope she found Hogan (our cat). All I heard was "turn that down! I want to watch tv!". The Kardashians were on. So I started playing and teasing her while singing "I want TV, TV, TV". So if you're listening, sing along to the main riff and it might make a little sense. The part at the end was where I got a little in over my head. I almost stop completely at one point when I mess up and have to think for a second what to do next. Considering where I was at with my attempt to start leaning guitar again there's a short section of playing in there I'm still impressed with. Whether anyone else is, well, don't matter ;) I get it.

As usual I hit record and whatever is there is now here in one take.... with the addition of a generic drum beat from an RP150 processor. Played on my MIK Strat in drop-D.

Ode To 90's Rock

Very low quality on this recording which isn't saying much. I didn't even go thru my amp opting for my just my Delonge Squier guitar, effect pedal, and one 20 year old computer speaker that was of course recorded on my Droid X.

Something I've been working on lately; I had 5 versions,2 of which are still here on Soundcloud . Catchy riff that went Country on me. Comments and criticism always welcome :) Some lyrics are in the works. And a buddy of mine is working on a lead! So hopefully this is something we can put some life into.

Hi. My name is Joe. Some people call me Joey G. and to some I'm STRANGER4LIFE, (S4L for short). The S4L thing was a screen name from years ago that just kind of stuck. And I kinda like it so I decided to keep it. 

What am I doing here? Well, I stumbled across Soundcloud a few years back. I was looking for a way to record myself playing guitar so I could track my progression. I hadn't picked up a guitar for over 15 years at that point. I put it down when I got to college. I brought it along with good intentions but I quickly learned that playing football and playing guitar was a challenge I did not anticipate. Between the lack of free time and the daily mashing and mangling of my fingers playing ball, well, you get the picture.

Fast forward a decade and a half. No more football. Lots of free time. One day I'm out in the garage and there's my guitar case. How'd that get out here? Who put my Strat outside?!? (My wife) And more importantly, why?!? (No respect for my things)So I thought, I'll show her! From that day forward I was on a mission to teach myself how to play. Again. Again? Well, maybe not again. But considering all I ever really knew was how to play a few chords that a buddy had shown me when I was in High School, yeah, I had a LOT to learn. 

Slowly, but surely, I made progress. Atleast I think I got better. I still don't know "theory" and I still need to use an electronic tuner before I play. But, hey. I'm having fun! And every now and then I actually catch myself and record something half decent. Those are the public tracks that some people actually listen to, like, and even download for future listening!
