I am really happy & honoured to announce the officially licensed release of this rare disco / modern soul gem from 1980. Here is my small story about this : I have been introduced to this record a few years back by DJ Klas. On the very first listen, it made me crazy & I went on an intensive & long quest to get myself a copy of the 45. It then became a kind of classics of my DJ sets, the record always being in my bag. It is definitely a sure shot for the dancefloor ! 

I then got in touch with the artist Lamar Thomas, first to try to get a spare copy, but after a few conversations on the web, I told myself it would be nice to give this rare & excellent record a new release. Pascal Rioux & Favorite Recordings finally agreed on the idea, and here it is.

"You can always rely on the Midnight Riot label to pick up a party. Seriously they'd get people dancing in a morgue. Here label favourite Ziggy Phunk turns in four sweet and tasty reworks of obscure 80s dance cuts. "Give It To You" is a soft focus helium-voiced disco cut that puts The Bee Gees to shame, "Some Kinda Lover" is nearly seven minutes of tight and sharp 80s electro-soul, "Sneak Preview" is a shiny filtered pop gem that bears more than a passing resemblance to early Madonna, and "Stand Up" is a sped up celebration of guitars and trumpets".

Diogo Strausz is a music producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Growing up in Rio de Janeiro, he showed a prodigal talent for composition from an early age, and this same passion for creating music still inspires Diogo as a record producer and remixer today. Through both solo work and collaboration, at only 31 years of age he has already blazed an impressively accomplished trail in the world of music.

As part of the duo Balako, Strausz’s music was released on Razor-N-Tape, Barefoot Beats and Greco-Roman after gaining the attention of Joe Goddard of Hot Chip. His tracks have been played by Gilles Peterson on BBC 6 and Bill Brewster, as well as described as ‘an enticing melting pot of sounds that feels both retro and current’ by XLR8R. Strausz recently made international waves earlier this year with his piece Pausa on Far Out Recordings, a grand and sprawling orchestral composition, recorded by musicians around the world in isolation.

Strausz’ career began in his early 20s, producing hits for indie Brazilian artists Castello Branco and Alice Caymmi, and co-producing an album for Brazilian actor Chay Suede with Mario Caldato Jr of The Beastie Boys. Now based in-between Paris and São Paulo, Strausz recently co-produced the record ‘Les Bruits de La Ville’ for up and coming French artist Voyou on Sony Music France, and he was recently tapped to remix two songs by legendary Brazilian singer Gal Costa. 

To conclude 2020 and begin 2021 Strausz has two upcoming releases on Brooklyn label Razor-N-Tape: his Emancipação EP which showcases his gift for instrumental composition that feels both timeless and modern, as well as a remix of Brazil’s seminal new band Baiana System in collaboration with producer JKriv.
