Whilst the melody is unmistakably English folk, the subject matter has all the hallmarks of a classic blues-of the "my man done left me", love-gone-pear-shaped variety-so we tried to add a flavour of that in the middle section (Solo by Nathalie). This arrangement was one of Caroline's contributions to the 'Sing for All' event held at Birmingham Town Hall in 2010.

What appears dead in the winter becomes the source of our daily bread by harvest-tide. The English tradition has brought forth many versions of this allegorical tale, and although we've sung other arrangements of this story in the past, we love the buoyancy of this major key tune! Caroline first played this melody at County Youth level, but says her arrangement is influenced more by the interwoven harmonies of English Madrigals than by Vaughan Williams.

Secondly, we run Singing Days for young people, residential sessions for teenagers and workshops for people of all ages: we’ll go for any way of getting people to sing in harmony with us.

In the last couple of years we’ve run the youth harmony workshops at the Sidmouth Folk Week, worked with children at the Towersey Festival, performed alongside Black Voices and Ex Cathedra in Birmingham Town Hall, sung for a charity in Worcester Cathedral, been played on BBC radio and made our sixth CD, Time & Tide.
