Originally penned at just 15 years old, John crafted this song as an imaginative reflection on the life of his sister, Angel—someone he barely knew at the time. The song explores themes of faith, resilience, and the struggles of navigating life’s hardships, portraying a character whose unwavering belief is her only source of strength.

Though purely fictional, "Angel" was inspired by John's limited understanding of his sister’s life as a devout Christian. Over time, John and his sister reconnected, building a strong bond. The song’s lyrics have evolved as well—the original chorus, "Babylon would fall once more," was later changed to "I don't want to fall no more," shifting the song’s meaning yet preserving its emotional depth.

First recorded in 1993, "Angel" features an incredible lineup of musicians, including Josh Freese (drums), Curtis Mathewson (guitar), and Richard Feldman (harmonica). This powerful track became the catalyst for John’s first record deal with EMI Records.
