A massive welcome to Midnight Boil!! These guys were a massive inspiration to us when we first began Love Project. Their party innovation is unparalleled in Naarm. Their iconic ute they would perform out of as well as their alleyway parties are a staple of Melbourne’s event culture.

We were so thrilled to have them on board to film at Revolver Lane and boy did they kill it. Behind the camera we could not stop dancing. All vinyl and just fun and groovy beats. Their energy was electric and we cannot wait to hear them play again.

Thanks Midnight Boil for the energy you brought to this set and for the beautiful community and ongoing events you’ve created - can’t wait for the next one.

Kyle Hall’s ‘Cosmic Touch’ opens his EP of the same name with masterful machine drum funk. Anything he touches turns into interplanetary gold, proven by the hypnotic and detailed grooves present across the release and his output to date. In ‘Cosmic Touch’, hazy resonant synths playfully bounce off layers of infectious rhythm, entrancing the listener before ‘Cobalt’ rides in with galactic pads and rolling toms, a swirly acid-line unfolding slowly in the second half. Closing out this next entry on the Spanish Apnea imprint, ‘Phantom’ chugs along a mystifying, ghastly synth line while typewriter-like hats hammer onto its steady kickdrum, chirpy sequences carefully filling the spaces between. 

Detroit artist Kyle Hall blends classic motor city techno with house influences, his personal take on the genres characterised by a warm, soulful sound and intricate rhythmic patterns in turn drawing from jazz, funk, and hip-hop. His music has landed on labels like Hyperdub, his own Wild Oats & Forget The Clock, and now, he follows up his collaborative ‘Crown’ LP with Steven Julien on Apron Records with a three-tracker on Apnea, a label which recently returned to the fold with quality releases from the likes of Gerald Donald’s Gedankenexperiment and E.R.P.

so buzzing to have close friend and one of my favourite dj's ever on my series. if you're already familiar with bunney, you'll know there's absolutely nobody better to start it off.

"I haven’t recorded a mix in a long time. After months of digging, I wanted to put something together as a love letter to my beautiful friends and for the friends who have embarked on a different journey beyond the veil.

Mix of Vinyl & CDJ, opening with a track featuring Amiri Baraka’s poetry, 'A New Reality Is Better Than A New Movie!'

The poem vividly imagines the old, unequal capitalist world being engulfed in an inferno. The footage captured on film seems insignificant compared to the revolutionary reality that awaits: 'The real terror of nature is humanity enraged, the true/technicolor spectacle that/Hollywood/can't record.' Baraka anticipates that such indignation will fuel a call for 'the emergence of a new socialist reality, the impending tidal wave that will reshape the world.'

Love to @lennyposso for featuring the poem in the track, as reading it was eye-opening and set a mood I was feeling for the start of the mix.

Lots of minimal, acidy, wubby, and analogic sounds, to 2003/2005 US and UK house with a splash of raw techno grooves. An elbow to the turntable at the end of the mix adds extra authenticity <3. Was waiting on VOG by the mighty Mattias, and it finally arrived in the post, so it was a must in the mix!!! I hope you enjoy as much as I did x."
