Beckett in January is a Britpop, guitar-led album about the exact moment you realise the new you hasn’t turned up — and you’ve just been caught nipping outside for a smoke while the house sleeps. Set in kitchens, hallways, doorsteps and grey mornings, it turns vast systems (self-improvement, responsibility, time, adulthood) into small, ridiculous, physical encounters: ash on a thumb, steam on a microwave door, a look that says more than a speech ever could.

Borrowing the wintery, stripped-back absurdism of Samuel Beckett, the album finds humour in stasis and tenderness in repetition. Songs circle the same questions — Where do we go from here? When does change actually start? — without pretending there are clean answers. Guitars jangle and snap in a Strokes / Libertines lineage; cellos act like a second conscience; flutes cut through like cold air under the door.

This is an album about failed resolutions, negotiated truces, small repairs made in bad light — and the strange hope that comes from deciding, again, to stay.
