Wandering aimlessly

gray, old horse,
given to me
to foster.
Both tired,
worn out
by this life
of barren effort -
seeming without
aim and purpose.

Holding it
by a rope,
trotting without direction.
He halts sometimes
to nibble on stones.

We arrived
in a tiny village,
where even the
road seems to end.
Here we should rest.
No people,
no signs of life.
I let the horse
nibble on the stones,
and fell asleep
under a tree.

Returning from my sleep,
it feels like
I’m still dreaming.
In front of me,
a white, proud stallion -
free and sovereign,
shimmering in the sun.

The old grey horse,
the rope -

Pegasus is waiting
now for me,
