First of all this set has nothing to do with the 'Back to the Future' party that was held in Amsterdam this month. Ryan and I recorded this set somewhere in februari, but could not post it due to my Soundcloud payment issues.

The set was recorded with three decks and a djm600. All tracks are (as far as we know) between 1990-2001. We really enjoyed recording it, it's oldfashioned merciless techno.

STR&TT08 - Stroef & Titch - Back to the future (1990-2001 oldschool techno set)

These tracks were played at the party E.M.M.A., on the 31st of July 2010. An absolute blast, playing alongside a lot of Amsterdam and Utrecht techno heroes such as Martyro, Tek-No-Bee and Carlos Rios and of course my esteemed Belgian colleague Double U Jay, who all played awesome sets.

Some additions were made to make the set a little longer. Unfortunately the live set there wasn’t recorded so we have tried to recreate the set as far as we could. It’s an ‘old-fashioned’ tribal party techno set. Mixed the old-fashioned way: three turntables and a mixer. Enjoy.

A few years ago I recorded a tribute set to my alltime favorite artist: Jeff Mills. I never was really happy with the result and the sound quality was pretty poor too. 

So I recorded a new Jef Mills set with Mills tracks I had never used before. That it self was quite a challenge, since my STR series have over 100 Mills tracks in the tracklists (I think I've used Step to Enchantment for instance - my absolute alltime favorite techno track - at least three times).

His tracks need no introduction. His sets and mixing style has greatly influenced my mixing and that of many others. I tried to keep up the good old Mills mixing pace, resulting in 63 tracks in less than two hours, something I've never accomplished before :).

STR27 - Stroef - Jeff Mills in 63 records (2012 redone version)

My inspiration for the set came from my research into the desolate western parts of Canada. Home to a lot of stunning views but also the place where I invest my stocks. I have always considered Canada to the most beautiful country in the world. 

This set has been on my shelf for two weeks, the tracks are all deep dubby tracks combined with harder stuff. I try to keep the sound as icey as possible, sometimes a little Detroit to break the ice and then returning to the cold.

A label where he releases his own work but also techno tracks from friends and kindred spirits.

Stroef is an Amsterdam based techno dj and producer. Primary influences are Jeff Mills' legendary Tokyo Liquidroom 1995 set and Surgeon's 'Force + Form' album. Later on harder techno sets like High Heel Techno by Dylan Drazen but also his more deep house oriented sets like 'Carry on' and 'Caught in The Act'. It showed him he wanted to play different kinds of techno, from Detroit to dub techno and electro. 

In 2002 he bought his first two decks and since 2005 he has been mixing with three turntables ever since. His mixing style can be described as fast and progressive: often starting out slow and ending harder. He always tries to tell his listeners a story. 

He was also Question clubnight (R.I.P.) resident and and fellow organiser.
