First taste of the upcoming Frowning Clouds album, 'Whereabouts'. It’s been a long time coming, but worth the wait. 
Combining all their favorite sounds, old and new, it’s definitely a departure from their previous full-length effort. 'Whereabouts' was recorded in Melbourne, Sydney, Madrid and Geelong late 2012. Fourteen songs of groovy, noodling beats and reverberated fake jazz wrapped in vivid artwork by Jason Galea (Zonk Vision).
The LP/CD will be available in Australia November 13 at all good record stores. First 100 copies of both the LP and CD will include a bonus disc filled up with their European tour cassette and singles B sides - available ONLY through mail-order!

An ancient mist rolls over the fjords of Scandinavia, carrying whispers of mythology and heroic sagas long forgotten. From this ethereal realm emerges an musical odyssey - "Saga of the Viking Soul" - forged from the beating hearts of Norse warriors and the spiritual echoes of the Old Ways.

The journey begins with "Warrior's Dawn", an epic Viking battle hymn that summons the prowess and bravery of the Norsemen. Traditional Nordic instrumentation blends with thunderous electronic beats, driving the oar-carved melodies ever onward to glory.

As we set sail on the "Sea of Shadows", a haunting Nordic chant echoes across the darkened waves. The ambient atmospherics capture the perils and excitement of a Viking longship voyage into the unknown. Suddenly, the "Lament of the Fallen" breaks the silence - a solemn remembrance for the heroes lost, their bravery and sacrifice memorialized through the yearning vocals and mystical tagelharpa melodies.

From the mists, a "Raven's Flight" descends upon us, carrying the supernatural mysteries of Norse myth. The atmospheric folk soundscapes paint vivid visions of fjords and mystical encounters with Odin's legendary companions.    

The saga continues with the thunderous return of "Odin's Valor" - a rallying war hymn channeling the All-Father's indomitable spirit through Nordic might and contemporary beats. "Valkyrie's Call" then pierces the fray, an anthem beckoning the battle-maidens to whisk away the heroic fallen to Valhalla's halls.

Under the "Northern Star", the intensity subsides as a tender Nordic folk love song unfolds. Delicate yet powerful melodies evoke the biting winds and spiritual longings of the Northern realms. But as "Saga's End" draws near, the epic tale takes an emotional turn through soaring Viking chants and a dynamic blend of cultural elements.      

From the ashes arises "Runes of Fate" - an ominous HymnCore epic fusing tribal rattles, eerie electronics, and Gothic choir in a ceremonial invocation. Finally, "Jörmungandr's Wrath" provides a climactic finale, the colossal sea serpent's rage unleashed in a torrent of thunderous Norse rhythms and transcendent Viking chants.

With each track, "Saga of the Viking Soul" weaves the ancient lore of the Norsemen into a modern-day, genrebending musical tapestry. Let this captivating Viking odyssey transport you to a realm where legendary warriors meet supernatural forces under the glow of the Northern skies.

Introducing ‘Velvet Dreams EP’, the debut from psychedelic shoegazer trio Is Bliss, set for release this autumn on Club AC30. 

‘Velvet Dreams’ is a tantalising taster of this new band’s potential. It’s atmosphere resonates strongly with the hazy sixties underground, with its sitar-like waterfall guitars and hypnogogic beats, but other, harder influences bleed through. From the intense hit of fuzzed-up anger on ‘Truth’, through to yearning, soaring dream-pop gorgeousness of ‘Lure’ and lead track ‘Ocean Blue’, this release sets out to show Is Bliss’ full range and depth.

Comprising of Jimmy Stuart (vox, guitar), Dean Edwards (bass) and Sam Speakman (drums), Is Bliss have been together barely a year and yet have quickly gained attention opening for Wolf Alice, Telescopes, Nine Black Alps, Mark Gardener and Robin Guthrie. Many bands today cite My Bloody Valentine as a major influence, but Is Bliss exist because Dean clocked Jimmy’s MBV t-shirt and when they struck up a conversation they discovered a shared a love of Slowdive, Spacemen 3, Verve and The Cure, along with a need to escape the mind-numbing boredom of rural Hampshire. This first clutch of songs was developed through live improvisation, but is taken to the next level here by Pat Collier (The House Of Love, Primal Scream, Swervedriver).

Is Bliss are planning a UK tour in the autumn to promote the EP, followed by the release of their debut long-player in the new year.

Is Bliss - Ocean Blue

Formidable by nature and not only by name, those Psychedelic Southsea Noise peddlers at Strong Island Recordings​ are putting out a hulking monster of a track from seaside spectres Melt Dunes.

The song in question is ‘Flesh’, a near 6-minute krautrock workout played with the gusto of The Stooges ​and the subtleties of CAN. ​The band charge mercilessly through the track with a cutting, persistent and droning synth providing the fuel for guitars to scream, drums to bludgeon and vocals to burn down a night sky with. It’s ‘Waiting for the Man’ for a disenchanted beach kid who’ll wait for no man, who knew chewing up a classic was going to sound so good, so twisted and so unique in an ocean of bands trying a little too hard to be The Growlers, King Gizzard and Ty Segall ​rather than become peers and equals?

‘Flesh’ is the first of many great numbers the band are set to release, with a ton of live shows booked the first part of this year, Melt Dunes ​will pummel and hypnotise the crowds with fuzzed out bass, Evil synths and heavy protopunk guitars, all doused in the winter sea mist anddelivered in a closed fist caked in slime from another planet.
