Sacred geometry, complex polyrhythms and clean sound design all collide in the work of Manchester outfit, Akkord.

With their critically acclaimed, self-titled debut album charting high in XLR8R’s end of year list and receiving 9/10 and 4/5 in XLR8R and RA respectively, Akkord are not resting on their success, and are already planning their next assault with this new body of work.

HTH020 consists of four tracks of much darker, moodier sounds, pairing monumental low-end frequencies with surgically precise production. The whole EP is centred around clammy, ominous atmospheres, underpinned by stomping beats and descending basslines, placing greater emphasis on the space in-between, and textured over with a doomsday ambience.

The music that Akkord create never strays out of their own minimalistic and direct approach to techno, but from there, and beyond, they touch on an ever-evolving variety of styles, which gradually drive us in front of an overwhelming and riveting soundscape.

Played last day of Lunchmeat festival 2023, opening club stage. Made to confuse, daze, and show off some of my favorite sound of music that is walking the edge between dancable and breaking apart music. Going from 140 to 200 bpm, this set features some of the artists that performed on Lunchmeat years before that I saw and loved, and lot of weird but super interesting artists that are currently releasing music and I love. Playing opening set allowed me not to care that much about vibe going forward, but focus on technique and interesting selection. Super proud of this one, enjoy!

For our first release of 2024 we welcome @undrwght, a prolific producer from Mexico who has long been cultivating a highly individual take on Latin club music. On his 𝙔𝙜𝙜𝙙𝙧𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙡 EP, his productions burst and blossom, rooted with grimey basslines while vibrating percussion shoots all the way up to the canopies.

In Norse mythology, the Yggdrasil tree connected the many realms of the universe, linking gods, giants, and mortals. Here, Undrwght connects his many musical influences to draw in listeners whatever their natural or supernatural status.

05 - Slippery Slope

It's hard to believe a whopping six years have passed since Travis 'Machinedrum' Stewart and Praveen 'Braille' Sharma first locked heads under the Sepalcure moniker. Hotflush Recordings have been chronicling their tale each step of the way, with six EPs and now two feature length albums in the kitty. 

This album follows in the same broken beat footsteps of their self-titled LP of 2011. Being from such different worlds, the pair insisted on working together in person — hence why it's taken a little longer for their second extended piece of homework to emerge. Folding Time's 11 tracks consist of both brand new material, as well as older forgotten projects that have been revived over many bottles of whisky. They explain that the title comes from the fact that, "it felt like we were connecting the present with the past. Going through each session was like digging through old memories.”

The all-encompassing work found in Folding Time is the result of their musical differences – factoring in both field recordings to live instrumentation. Tracks are multilayered and full of intimate easter eggs that are the final product of "two homies hanging out and having fun; a meeting of our minds." Our top pick is "Not Gonna Make It", getting straight to the point with stuttering footwork-esque rhythms and fractured vox that are now a Sepalcure trademark.

Whithe // Remain

Oliver Torr's take on a traditional folk song from Liptovská Revúca, a track from the upcoming Liptov compilation.

Liptov is a 12 track collaboration between contemporary Czech and Slovak electronic music producers, each tasked with reinterpreting 1982s “Liptov - A Panorama of Folk Song and Music Culture”. The original collection sought to preserve the musical cultural heritage of the region, while the “Liptov” compilation maps the current spectrum of the electronic scene of both countries, across genres and styles. Initiated by Prague-based community project Punctum, and released on the Punctum Tapes label, the artists of Liptov not only confront the past with the present via the reimagining of traditional music, but also contribute to the ongoing emancipation of the local electronic music scene.

Compilation will be released on 12'' vinyl and digitally on February 12, 2021.
