Number 098 of our mix series is delivered by Varuna. Enamored with the sense of unity that arises on sweaty dance floors, her goal is to create more of this unity and connect people with themselves and others through music. Growing up as the child of a former drummer and percussionist, she found early inspiration that laid the foundation for her sound as it is today. Her music blends intricate, jazz-infused rhythms with gritty, ever-evolving soundscapes, soulful pads, and otherworldly, trippy sounds. Drawing from elements of Detroit techno, ambient, dub, acid, electro, and sometimes broken beats, she creates a futuristic utopian landscape where body and mind can connect.

Currently working as a junior audio engineer and studying at the Conservatory of Amsterdam’s Electronic Music Academy, she continues to explore and evolve her sound.

Carlos, aka Toltech, is a disciple of the old-school Montréal techno scene, who seamlessly blends Mesoamerican influences with a spectrum of techno styles, from hypnotic, industrial and raw to funky and hardgroove. His music is meant to guide listeners through a range of moods, from somber, hypnotic rhythms to vibrant grooves such as that, before you know it, has gotten your body to move.

"This nearly 2-hour mix is a journey through the diverse range of techno sounds I stand for, featuring a few of my own studio productions. While I explore different sonic landscapes—from the smoother, somber, darker side to the harder, more clangy, without leaving the groovy vibes behind—the focus always remains on the ultimate goal: keeping the dancefloor moving. Confusion is a producer and Raserei resident DJ. His dancefloor-oriented sound is characterized by highly effective rhythms, minimalist synths, and trippy pads or textures that traverse various tempos and subgenres, maintaining a consistent energy level. Drawing inspiration from his roots as a drummer and the evolving landscape of techno over the decades, Confusion also finds creative influence in his appreciation for ambient soundscapes, IDM, and other experimental electronic genres.

Since 2017, he has been shaping the regional techno scene in Mannheim and its surroundings. Further bookings in institutional clubs like Tresor Berlin or RSO followed. Co-hosting a visionary event series at Disco Zwei, he has been instrumental in presenting well-respected bookings to the local scene. Besides the club nights, the Raserei residents started a record label of the same name, in addition to a podcast series, to establish themselves and their musical vision beyond the region.

In recent years, his focus has expanded to crafting own stripped-down yet minimalistic but timeless techno tracks. Alongside numerous self-releases, he has earned recognition with releases on well-respected platforms such as Canticle, SYXT, PRX Records, Schimmer Records and Grab The Groove. Confusion's music has garnered support from established artists including DVS1, Luke Slater, Setaoc Mass, Rødhåd, Rene Wise, Philippa Pacho, Marrøn, Blue Hour, to name a few. These tracks have found their way into the sets of these artists at renowned venues like Berghain, KHIDI, Bassiani, Basement and Radion. Keep an eye, there is more to come..

Retter is a Colombian DJ and producer who moved to Berlin five years ago to immerse himself in the city's underground electronic music scene. Initially focused on techno, his sound has since expanded to encompass a wide range of electronic styles, blending creativity with dynamic energy.

As part of the trio "2001 Space Odyssey" with Nikita T and Fase023, Retter explores live electronic fusion through improvisation and innovative soundscapes. He is also the founder of the label and collective Técnica, a platform committed to pushing the boundaries of electronic music.
