Jessica Ekomane is a French-born and Berlin-based electronic musician and sound artist. She creates situations where the sound acts as a transformative element for the space and the audience. Her quadraphonic performances, characterized by their physical affect, seek a cathartic effect through the interplay of psychoacoustics, the perception of rhythmic structures and the interchange of noise and melody. Her ever-changing and immersive sonic landscapes are grounded in questions such as the relationship between individual perception and collective dynamics or the investigation of listening expectations and their societal roots. Her first LP Multivocal was released in 2019 via Important Records. Since then, her work has been extensively presented in festivals, venues, contemporary art spaces and museums across the world. She was one of the fellows in residence for the villa Romana Prize 2023 in Florence.

As we have always dealt with sound as a political category, our activism is based on listening and focuses on the revolutionary potential that is inherent in the sonic. Under the banner of Sonic Agency we want to enforce a sonic activism of opposition and resistance. The artists involved are advocating for social and political transformation. Their sounds lend themselves to global emancipatory struggles, and fights for freedom and equality. The featured sounds aren’t complicit in the silence that surrounds us. They are furious, desperate, crying, paralysed, compassionate and rebellious like us. There is a message in sound that cannot be negated.

Listening is not neutral.
Listening shapes the reality we live in.
Listening is shaped by ethics and politics and leads back to it.
Listening is directly linked to memory and identity.
Listening is as important as speaking.
Listening is an active act.

This month we are honored to guest the Turin based artistic collective SPIME.IM for the second hour of the show. Those past years they managed to carved out a singular place in contemporary experimental music, installations and Audio/visual performances - exploring the aesthetics of digital reality through transmedia music projects. They blend cutting-edge technology, 3D art, and electronic music to craft immersive audiovisual experiences that challenge our understanding of identity and corporeality. Their recent collaboration with acclaimed pianist and composer Lubomyr Melnyk and cellist Julia Kent on «The End Of The World» garnered critical acclaim, including a notable performance at the Barbican Centre in London. Additionally, they are set to perform at the renowned Mutek festival in Montreal this August, further solidifying their position in the forefront of the art and experimental music scene. We can’t recommend enough to listen to their "Grey Line » Album out on -OUS Records and the striking visual work created for their track « Hint », in collaboration with Riccardo "Akasha" Franco-Loiri amongst other stunning works . <3 First hour duty is ours, from noise and acoustic music to high end club bangers and contemporary Rap/RnB music. For the second hour of the show, SPIME.IM will blast a fair amount of underground and contemporary experimental sounds covering a wide spectrum of sounds, creating a unique, elegant and personal soundscape. She recently launched her label INITIATION and research platform The Secret Institute, exploring the secrets and mysteries of vibrational rhythm, the ritual as a socio-political tool, invisible gestural sonics, noise tantra, and strategies of trance.

In the depths of the soul, the fire of feminine rage blazes, a tempest of passion echoes through the ages.

For the first recording of our residency, xenial co-founder @victoirevital selects 30 minutes of dubstep and grime, as a nod to flinta rage, reverberating through each melodie. 

To represent the power of these emotions, we were drawn to Marseille-based artist Julia Bonich’s fantastical visuals for the cursed princess 👑 

The set was originally recorded on Cashmere Radio, as part of the xenial takeover on March 23rd, 2024.
