This is one of my favorite songs on the new album. I have listened to that 1st "drop" on loop approximately 18 zillion times; it reminds me of the sparkling melodic downtempo I fell so deeply in love with back in the day - exploring the side rooms & chill rooms with avant-garde sound-systems playing music from left field… or spiraling liquid abstract downtempo that would play during sunrise at a free outdoor full-moon celebration. Listening to this style of music was one of the 1st times I really registered in my mind that I was hearing an 808 bass, and it began a whole side-genre for me as a producer: using those drums to strengthen any other genre or sound. And who doesn't love a good vocoder… also a classic sound to my ears from the 1990s rave scene. This one says "We're reaching out to set you free" and it captures that healing energy of feeling rescued by friends (or angels) - this is one of the most important effects music has had on my life: making me feel healed.

The song is dedicated to a special person close to the band who said, before she passed, that her life “all seems like a dream.” It’s a sentiment that is reflected in the lyrics and overall feeling of “Give & Take".

I wanted to capture the summertime vibes with a fresh style on the song 'Elation'. The track embodies the sense of rapture that I get when I perform my music. “Nowhere But Up” is the finished project and sophomore EP by the 19 year old producer Cory Wythe, and the debut EP under his new moniker “Marvel Years”. This EP is made up of music derived from the heart and soul of Marvel Years over the second phase of this young artist's career. This short album reflects the newly acquired style in which this artist plans to expand into the future and ranges from smooth, downtempo electro hip-hop to hard hitting upbeat future funk. The EP starts off with the hip-hop based track “The East”, and continues to blend its way through an arsenal of bangers before wrapping up with “Reminisce”, a chilled-out soulful mixture of hip hop and funk.

01 The East

20 years before the emergence of STS9, NASA sent Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 on a mission to the farthest reaches of the solar system and beyond. Each of these probes was equipped with identical Golden Records, special messages attached to what Carl Sagan called “a bottle launched into the cosmic ocean.” They contained numerous images and sounds from throughout the world, pieces of music from various cultures, a map identifying the location of our planet, and other information for whomever, or whatever, might find them.

While the Golden Records included greetings in 59 languages, they made no mention of nations and borders, wars and rivalries, or anything else that divides us. What they did mention was life, love, peace, birth--the things that bind us to one another and to the planet we call home. 

The Universe Inside is a reflection of this message. It is a story about human identity and the magical truth of who we are, where we’re going, and our place in the Universe. It says we are one, made of stardust and the forces of nature that evolved over billions of years. Connected by the sun, moon and stars, we are the living, breathing conscience of the Universe. 

"We are one, made from dust of the stars / down here we bear the weight of the pain and the scars / just want to live with nothing to hide / every one of us a universe inside."
