Entrusted with the the honour of closing the Round Room at Encapsulated Energy 7, I have been awake almost 24 hours and I now have <25K of Funktion One all to myself and a room of tired but expectant ravers standing before me - so what do I do?

Fully back into the realms of '91 breakbeat hardcore (of course with a techno twist) as I was playing alongside the mighty LTJ Bukem and oldskool legend Top Buzz for this Encapsulated Energy event - Love Dove Three.

Just image you are back on Hastings pier at Storm (or anywhere mid 1991 to be honest) listening to Grooverider, Slipmatt or dare I say even Top Buzz

it certainly went down well on the night even at 4AM, however due to the quality of the recording, I knocked this up in the studio.

Stu N - 1991 Mixtape 320kps

An eclectic stack of remixes and b-side tracks that gelled into an awesome set. This is the studio version of my last EE set. Im really happy with how the tracks gelled together (well if old-two-left ears has them syncopated anyways! and built such energy throughout the hour. 

I was aiming to create a 'sunrise set part 2' but quickly realised I will never eclipse that set so this one is made to be an ideal follow up.

This set is such a fitting tribute to complete the many trips to the oldskool at Encapsulated Energy right on my own seafront! Although never say never as I and sure EE is not done and dusted just yet........

Stu N 1991 Mixtape Part 3

Here’s the set I played at Encapsulated Energy 3 last weekend and I just cannot put into words how great this night was! 


This was more than just a gig to me - it has to be up there with the most important moments of my life. 


I have wanted this moment since 1991. I grew up with this music and went to Storm's on Hastings pier just along from where EE3 was held, so the chance to play Oldskool-Rave in my home town with all my friends there was a dream come true, and if you think it sounds good here you really should have heard it at the pointy end of the Funktion One rig.


Unfortunately the Pre-Party wasn't recorded so as soon as I got back to The Retreat I ran through it again and here it is. Even better still there was a set free at 8pm and I was invited to have another go! This time Rob Kinetic and myself played b2b and we smashed it -  Electrofied were in the house! This set was also recorded and will follow shortly……



This mix is dedicated to Colin, Lisa and Bump, thank you so much for making it happen.

Goosebumps all the way.......... you can hear the excitement in your voices as the set builds and builds! Massive set all 3 of you blowin the roof off, easily One of the best sets I have witnessed in years........... you set the fuse for EE4 alight, I shit you not YOU GOT THIS PARTY AND TOOK IT TO ANOTHER LEVEL, it went from a night out to something incredibley surreal, the ENERGY was immense something I have only experienced twenty odd year ago, I thank you for giving me that glimpse of where my heart lives......... Stu N has loved music since a very early age but it was with the dawn of rave that he found his true love! Living in Hastings with its legendary venue on the pier, he used to sit underneath to hear the new and excititng sounds coming from the ballroom, then in early 1991 he borrowed ID and got in and has never been quite the same since! 

The horns and hoovers of the euro breakbeat sound affected him to such and extent that even now in a quiet room it is all he can hear, better still he is back playing the music he loves (truly it never went away but now other people want to hear it as well)

However this doesn’t mean that Stu is not able to hold a crowd, he has always remained close to his roots by playing very occasionally at live events around the south coast. Most recently he's played at the now legendary 'Encapsulated Energy' parties in Hastings, alongside legends such as 'Jumping Jack Frost', Nebula II, LTJ Bukem and 'Shades of Rhythm' along with a single adventure to the mighty 'Labrynth - The Phoenix Rising' which was over the August Bank holiday in London.
