The mix captures the variety of music that I’ve been listening to in the last few months. Old and new, the tracks come from all corners of electronic music – most are melody-driven and perfect for late-night listening. The first two tracks, ‘Mrytle Avenue’ from Floating Points and Leon Vynehall’s ‘I Know Your Face Heroine’ set the tone, with precise, syncopated percussion rhythms and dreamy synth-sounds creating an ambient yet upbeat mood. In comes the subtle but powerful ‘Why Don’t Ya’ remix taken from Dixon’s recent essential mix, followed by the driving beat and captivating trumpet of Chaos in the CBD’s ’78 to Stanley Bay’. ‘Bantwana’s Piano’ is a little bit special, the sophisticated piano interwoven with inaudible but beautiful vocals. In Joe Claussell’s ‘All Loved Out’ remix, more African-inspired music follows, with the ever-present percussion combining with an incredible extended piano solo, which makes for a strong climax. Levon Vincent’s ‘A Melody for Everyone’ pushes the direction of the mix back towards the realms of deep electronic music, which is where the mood remains. The experimental, somewhat hypnotic electronic sounds of Mind Against and Petar Dundov round off the mix. I hope you enjoy it.
