Kicking off with Emika from the Czech Republic, great opening track almost Dubstep but not. Then not long till the excellent bassline of David August's True Romance' before a melodic ride of highs and lows with the Dj Koze remix of 'Keep Me In My Plane' and Maceo Plex's 'Falling'.
Its picks up a gear when the sounds of Dj Yellow and Liz Carelli, before the great vocals of Ruede Hagelstein on Adam Ports 'Corrosive Love' leading into Nikola Gala 'Timeless City' with parts from Goldies 'Inner City Life'.
Then onto one of the tunes of the later part of the summer, from Holland Kraak &amp; Smaak 'Lets Go' featuring Romanthony who has previously provided vocal for Daftpunk's 'Discovery album, ive added some extra parts over this just to give it something extra.
The last track is from one of my favourite producers at the moment, Sergio &amp; Bernoit were brought to my attention by their previous track 'Walk &amp; Talk' but the new 'Everybody' track is a perfect closing track for any dancefloor.

Empathy 16th Birthday Classics Mix - Stuart Wilkinson Feb 2017

It will be 16 years since Empathy began at Bar Latino on the 23rd March 2001.
To mark the occasion we will be heading back to where it all began on the 15th April.
I have been resident for 16years and have seen so much good music get played at all the events at all the venues.
So recently I sorted through all my old vinyl and recorded a special mix, playing all the tracks that have special memories or have been inspirations for various reasons along the way. 


1 - God Within ‘Raincry’ Vance Musgrave Mix (Dorigen Music) This takes me back to driving around in my late teens, listening to Sasha & Digweeds 'Northern Exposure', the first real musical journey and the original of this track was a huge part of it. The remix is great and was very often the opening track in the early days of Empathy.

2 - Vance Musgrove ‘Elemental’ (Orc Music) This track really was massive back at Bar Latino, will always love this!

3 - Cass & Slide Vs The Cure ‘The Forest’ (White Label) One artists that really stood out for me back then, Cass & Slide, with so many amazing productions, was great to have Cass play for us.

4 - Jim Rivers ‘Empathy’ (Bedrock) Well this speaks for itself! I literally thought Jim was having a laugh when he said John has signed two of his tracks and one is called Empathy.

5 - Lamb ‘Gorecki’ Bill Hamel Mix (White Label) Buying records back then was either in London, Oxford at Massive Records and Bang Bang in Bristol, which was where this came from, was always nice hanging out in the shop with Mike and Rachel.

6 - Corellian ‘Fathoms’ Freelance Ice Breakers Mix (Flying Rhino) This comes from way back in 1999 and has not aged at all, a track that shouldn’t be forgotten. In the late 90’s there were very few progressive house nights in Bristol, so finding a club that would play this sort of track was impossible. This led me to start a small night and try and get something going.  

7 - 16 Bit Lollitas ’The Martian Ambassador' (Lowriders Promo) One of the many records that was sent to me by Mike Miller at 3Beat in Liverpool, who later went on to become Jim Rivers artist manager. 

8 - Gabriel & Dresden ‘Lament’ Dub 4 Satoshi Mix (Saw Recordings) I remember doing a mix for Steve Parry’s Juice radio show in Liverpool in 2003 and this record being played last, its was a great time for progressive house, especially when SAW label manager, Satoshi Tomiie signed Empathy resident Jim Rivers in 2004 for a EP. Good times!

9 - Sizequeen ‘Music’ (Twisted) One of my favourite records from 1998, and still gets played to this day, I have never heard anyone else play it and its a gem! 

10 - Slide ‘Closure’ Lounges Tech Mix (Automatic) One hell of a track that brings back loads of memories. I remember this being played at Industry55 in Prague, Empathy had a residency there for 2 years and became a second home. 

11 - Poseidon ‘Supertransonic’ Timo Maas Mix (Hope) It was a stroke of luck having such a good record label on your door step like Hope Recordings. We joined forces on many occasions, the Christmas parties were a highlight and the Way Out West Boat Party in 2003 was one of the best parties.

12 - Morgan King ‘I’m Free’ William Orbit Mix (Excession) This record from 1997 is a huge favourite, it was given to me by Dave Gawthorn in 2002, I cannot remember why he brought it especially to the club to give to me but I have been eternally grateful ever since. 

13 - Timo Maas ‘Schieber’ (Hope) It was 2003 when Timo Maas and Locodice played a very special 3hr back to back set at Bar Latino, another Empathy VS Hope Xmas Party. Collecting them both from Heathrow was fun! 

14 - Dj Dan ‘Needle Damage’ (Moonshine) A absolute belter of a track, it quite often worked out that I played last, so I could manage the night, I could then play as hard as I wanted till 3am on a Friday morning!

Heres a new mix from me all in preperation for one hell of a party. 
Minotaur Sound have been causing a stir in Bristol clubland over the past few years, with parties in prisons, live streams from studios, barbers and a double decker bus!
This time they are at one of my favourite veues in Bristol Blue Mountain, I hosted many a Empathy event there in the late 2000's. 

So its a pleasure to be back, and especially as il be playing the warm up to Alex Banks, who is one hell of a Dj!

Theres not many djs with a history of creating a party as well as playing at them as Stuart Wilkinson.
After spending most weekends raving at Lakota, Karanga, Cafe Blue and driving all over the south west in the late 90’s, he soon moved from Weston super Mare to Bristol and started his own club night Empathy at Bar Latino in 2001, weekly Thursdays for over 4 years, then moving to various venues across the city such as Timbuk2, Blue Mountain, Motion and Native.
The night continued into its second decade at Dojo and celebrated its 15th Birthday at the 02 Academy with John Digweed and Nick Warren in 2016. 
Not many promoters have brought as many dis to Bristol, with the likes of Darren Emerson, Henry Saiz, James Zabiela, Lee Burridge, James Holden, Dave Seaman, Adam Freeland, Locodice, Timo Maas and many more. It was the 21st Birthday that really took the roof off in 2022 with Laurent Garnier taking centre stage.
Stuart is also responsible for the rise and creation of Mr Whompy, for a decade the Ice Cream Van Soundsystem has been a firm favourite at Boomtown, Elrow, NIbley, Stoke Croft Block Party, Lemonfest and many more. 
Over the years Stu has also started various other club nights such as Unity at Lakota, Loop at Blue Mountain, Hope at Arc, Digital at Dojo, Dirty Blue and Arc, Empathize at Big Chill and Double Disco at various venues.
Stuart has also been lucky enough to play Glastonbury many times and overseas in Empathy in Auckland, Prague and Ibiza and dis gigs in Portugal and Poland plus Creamfields in Prague.
