A journey through 35 years of house from the godfather of UK rave. 

In popular mythology, the '90s are without question, the halcyon days of dance music—an era of free raves and unadulterated hedonism. It's a myth that Matthew Nelson, AKA Slipmatt, knows better than most–he was there. 

During the late '80s, as the rave scene in the UK began to boom, Nelson began moonlighting as a DJ. He would land his first residency at Raindance, the East London rave that launched in September 1989 and would become the UK's first legal rave. By 1991 , he'd reach number two in the UK charts with "On A Ragga Tip" as one-half of SL2 and two years later, sell over 10,000 copies of the first pressing of SMD#1.

Nelson has got a lot to share (as you'll see in his interview) so we'll let him do the talking. He's been variously called the godfather of rave and happy hardcore, but what you'll hear on RA.958 is as "a journey through my 35 years of house." A DJ with this much pedigree brings much more than that, of course: touching on the breakbeat, jungle and acid house that soundtracked that golden age, as well as nods to the rich cross-pollination with scenes beyond the UK, from Joey Beltram's "Energy Flash" to Stardust's "Music Sounds Better With You."

A little mash up mix & scratch of some hardcore breakbeat early jungle  from 92 -95 era.

Going back to my youth on this one after i heard The Prodigy for the first time as a kid i was hooked from that moment on ! 
i then delved deeper into this crazy future music after i got  got given various tapes  like Dreamscape , Fantazia, Helter Skelter, World Dance, Awol ,Desire ,Desert Storm, United Dance etc ,from older friends ,
 Got into  pirate radio stations with a coat hanger for an ariel :)
Pirate Stations like.. kool fm , don fm ,rush fm , centreforce  etc .. 
This Mix is influenced by them times for me anyway ..

There is roughly a 100 songs & little samples & scratches along the way of some of my favourite tunes ,there was too many songs to pick from in the end ,Sorry if you like just jungle or just hardcore  I’ve tried to do a bit of both cause i was into it all at the time !

Back when it  was all about (for some:) ) raving , flyers ,tape packs , pirate radio , curtain haircuts ,pony tails, ma2 jackets, Record shopping  record bags , blackmarket , unity , mash , reebok classics , adidas tracksuits ,E hats ,whistles & horns , clipper lighters, 5 draws, 
10 Bensons  , red kingsize rizzla *  bottles of 20/20 , 
white lightning & hooch down the park & a few other little things .💊.
memories & migraines making this :) ..


big up the Dreamscape crew , sorry for the copyright on the flyer but Dreamscape was the icon of flyers back then  & it just represents that time for me , just like sampling :)  it’s all love ! :)
