I first wrote this song in 1993, recorded a proper demo in 1994, and in 2008 the original pop version wound up on my 2nd album "Noisemaker." I've changed it considerably here; there's even a key change towards the end (key changes are something I don't play around with much to be honest!) and I feel there are other songs in my repertoire. FIGHTER (2014 Version) - Stuart Powell

This is the first song to come to mind as I'm attempting to write a contemporary style of country. Feel free to comment--let me know how this makes you feel!! 
It's also the first time I've attempted to sing in what is closest to my natural vocal compared to the other two songs, which are lowered in key from a previous version. This song doesn't have as much "twang" to it compared to the others in my opinion, but the main focus was what was in my heart when I put it together over the course of several days. The lyrics spilled out almost spontaneously--you could ask my girl--and she felt firsthand what I do when I go into "the zone." I literally shut myself off, but in a case like this, I feel it was worth it. I hope so at least. This song is about 4 people very dear to me, gone too soon, but at the same time how you feel they're always around the corner, guiding you to your next destination in life. It could be anyone, really, but I thought to make this one really personal. Hope you enjoy it. Share if you do....Maybe I'll get a real band to play this someday.... ;) Enjoy. -S.

On My Mind - Stuart Powell

Anyhow, I know it may come off slower than the original mix, but before you pass judgment, know that the original is actually SLOWER! lol In any case, I tried to keep the integrity of the song intact, which is getting a tad harder with each cover of my songs I attempt. I'm also coming to the realization that these songs on my new SoundCloud page are intended to be DEMOS and DEMOS ONLY. Arranging dance or electronic music is so much easier, because you can mix & master much of it in your home studio. Not the case with rock, country or anything organic that you don't have real instrumentation on. I'm playing about 30% guitar on much of my material, but still, having a full band backing you on this type of stuff makes all the difference. Hopefully, a major label in Nashville will see past the production and offer me something as a songwriter or artist. I think it would be 200X more kick ass anyhow... ;) But enjoy...it's getting fun, y'all. -S.

This is an original ode to my 2nd family and friends at Slane Public House, one of the BEST Irish bars with a homely vibe. I was the main DJ there (those knew me as "DJ Corey") from Nov 2007 to Sept 2012. I saw renovation, expansion, regulars come & go. Lots of memories. Sadly, after 8 short years, Slane will be no more come Sunday, November 24th. This is my bittersweet gift to everyone involved in making it such a wonderful place. Ronnie Milsap is a legendary country music artist that I've always admired. Partly because he's performer songs that have attained pop crossover appeal back in the 80's, but also because the man is blind. I've had the opportunity to see him live twice to date. This is my absolute favorite song from the man….I've attempted to cover it in the past, just never sharing a version with anyone to date because I was never satisfied with the results. STRANGER IN MY HOUSE (Ronnie Milsap Cover) - Stuart Powell

Several weeks ago, I lost my Mom. She passed away at a young 62 years of age.  This is the first offering of music I've recorded since her passing, and while it may sound like a tribute to her memory, listen close to the lyrics. Your Mom could be alive, but distant in relationship. Maybe this song could serve as the bridge that brings y'all back together?? In my case, it's definitely a tribute. Since living in NYC, I grew fond of her phone calls to me. She left sometimes rambling messages…often times I was too busy to talk to her…now I'm left with memories, several voicemails she left before being hospitalized earlier this summer, and an incredible void in my life. As Christmas approaches, don't let any animosity or ill feelings stand in the way of family blood. You only get one Mom, or Father, or brother, sister…etc. There will never be another. Make it count. If only to speak your peace, call to say you are thinking about them. Thank them for being the person they are. Tell them you love them. Because tomorrow may not be there for them….. love you guys! -S.

HEAR YOUR VOICE - Stuart Powell

It was 1998. I got in with one HELLUVA bunch o' talented musicians that really knew their stuff. It was Greenville NC. We were just 5 guys who loved music, loved playing in front of a crowd, and we had a lot of ideas. I sang lead vocals on this and played keyboards.This was from one of those rehearsals…in fact, one of our first. I ran across this tape and it still gives me chills to hear everything fall into place like a puzzle piece. These guys were like the perfect mechanism to me. Without one, it just didn't fly right. We played maybe a total of just 3 or 4 gigs before calling it.….I'd love to rock out with them again someday. We all came from different genres of music, but the chemistry surely was there.
