With a love for music anchored equally in 80s/90s electronic music and 60s/70’s soul, @StubbornHeartUK concocted their fdebut eponymous album. It was music from the same stable as the likes of The XX, SBTRKT and Four Tet yet undeniably had soul. It rubbed Gilles Peterson up the right way and he awarded it the Album Of The Year at 2013's Worldwide Awards. Since, they've been beginning to mould the foundations of their follow-up LP. Changes to their working patterns, girlfriends and live shows are the chat of this week's Touching Bass edition. Then tuck into a mix that curves from Capleton all the way through to The Isley Brothers.

“Emperor” is the latest single to be taken from Scrimshire’s highly praised third opus, “Bight”, an album that exemplifies progressions made both as a singer-songwriter and producer, pushing forward from his acclaimed second album, “The Hollow”.

The song kicks off with Scrimshire’s trademark guitar and Stac’s distinctive vocals but soon drops into low-slung beats, reminiscent of Portishead and Shadow at their best. It’s a short but powerful tune, and comes complete with a trio of remixes that take it into three very distinctive places.  

The mighty Stubborn Heart (One Little Indian) set the bar with what is possibly one of the finest remixes we’ve ever received at Wah Wah 45s. Pitching Stac’s vocal down and increasing the intensity on the beats, the London duo take this tune where it’s never been before and have created something of a dance floor anthem in the process. 

Sought after beat monger, Kratos Himself, delivers a more horizontal version, complete with ethereal sound effects and a less urgent approach that allows the song some space to express itself.

And finally, we’re very happy to include a rework from another London twosome who you’re going to hear plenty more about in the coming months. Our very own Bopperson and The High Five Guy have joined forces to produce the Bopper Five Remix, which takes the track right back to early 90s Bristol with a little 2013 bass worrying thrown in for good measure.

Look out for an added bonus in the shape of a live acoustic performance of previous single “Convergent” that Scrimshire recorded for The Selector earlier this year, rounding off one extremely heavyweight package indeed!

We fell in love with Norwegian https://soundcloud.com/atella after hearing just a few notes. With her enchanting voice, Kristiane lures you into a dreamlike state and lets you experience the seductive sound of Atella’s electronic pop music. ‘The Monster’ is their impressive first output and leaves us hungry for more.

London based electronic soul music duo Stubborn Heart, signed to One Little Indian, seemed perfect to add breaks and bass to ‘The Monster’. We are big fans of their debut album (which was crowned Album Of The Year at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards 2013), imagine how excited we were about their contribution.

Xinobi, who runs the Discotexas label with Moullinex, recently did remarkable remixes for Agnes Obel and John Grant. His taste in music is rather eclectic, as are his productions. He strips Atella’s original to its core, leaving only the vocals behind. His rework is built around an uplifting piano lick and a ridiculously funky bassline. From Portugal with love.

The Monster is taken from ‘The Blue Collection’, the second installment in a new compilation series on Eskimo based around colours. It’s the follow-up to last year’s lauded 'The Pink Collection’.

The documentary follows the highs and lows of Generation Y as they cope in one of the toughest economic times since the 1930s. The film focuses on the contrasting lives of our diverse cast from the moment they receive their ‘payday’ money to how they go on to spend, save or squander it.
