Stubbornly Absent, is a unique and artistic musical endeavor. It’s the first original music project of its kind in the world with songs based on English language versions of the poetry of Wislawa Szymborska. The Nobel laureate’s timeless poetry provided inspiration for an eclectic and surprising mix of carefully crafted sounds. 

The project of combining original music with Szymborska’s poems was carried out with the consent of the poet, and by approval of the American publishing house WW Norton & Company, publisher of Miracle Fair: Selected Poems of Wislawa Szymborska.

Other translations were created specifically for the project. The author, Joanna Trzeciak, is an authorized translator of Wislawa Szymborska, winner of the Heldt Translation Prize 2001, Griffin Poetry Prize 2012 and Found in Translation 2012. Ms. Trzeciak is also a lecturer at the University of Portland.

The project was completed under the patronage of the Wislawa Szymborska Foundation.
