GOING THROUGH THE NOTIONS

Creating this tune, I was mostly focused on rhytmical pattern and spiced up the 4/4 Beat  with a small amount of Funk essence.
And... do scratches work, implemented in electronics?
In modern productions these are almost extinct.

I watched Glastonbury with old legends like Elton, Cat Stevens, Blondie and The Pretenders etc. who all showed they can still rock the place in their 70s!! Amazing! Hats off to all!!

Here's a track in the "Brit" style and tradition and it gave me an excuse to give my guitars and voice a bit of an airing :)

Unique soundtrack with atmospheric pads and other synthetic sounds, piano, orchestral percussion blended with special sfx's

Only a very special analog style mastering vst plugin compressor have been used on this track with some precise settings for the attack and release times for a subtle compression with only two db's of gain reduction on the whole final mix for some ''analog like warmness and saturation'' and a vst mastering limiter with a ceiling of -3.0 db's

Mastered, dithered and uploaded as wave File @ 44.1 khz 24 bits with max sound level of -3.0 db's (dbfs)

The Island

Who we are

studio little, electronic music productions, sound mastering, slide shows, video edits and  video renderings

We record and master digitally and we upload our music as wave file @ 24 bits 44,100 hz unless otherwise stated

We do not use no more than a mastering vst compressor (klanghelm dc1a) for a subtle compression and a vst mastering limiter apogee softlimit) to keep the peak levels between -1.2 and -3.5 db's (dbfs) depending on the material

*We record digitally only for practical reasons

By signature Anthony Michaelides is our epitome for a true hifi sound

Please, do not expect a loud sound that can shake your room from our recordings

Many audiophile labels like Chandos Uk, Erato, Naxos, Emi Classics record at low levels too

We always try to give to our recordings a sound that is natural with good amount of transparency, dynamics and warmness at the degree that is possible due to the digital recording limitations

Some words why digital recording is not yet the best thing

Digital recording is not perfect even if you record at the highest sampling rate

Digital distort too easily even if your recording levels fall below 0 !

Digital recording of synthetic sounds is lifeless even if you add effects

Digital recording of synthetic sounds does not have the warmness nor the full dynamics and harmonics of the analog recording (1/4'' inch open reel @ 7.5 ips, 2 ''  inches open reel @ 15 ips)

Our little project studio gear is not the best but this does not stopping us from creating some quality music

Pioneer SX-3800 Receiver

In Pioneer's extensive receiver lineup for 1980, The SX-3800 was in the upper third in terms of power and performance. It was rated at 60 watts per channel, which was more than sufficient to rock the house. It had extremely low THD: .005%, It's phono S/N ratio was an amazing 115dB.

Great receiver to evaluate final mixes and masters, it can be used even for monitoring if you have those so called ''golden ears''...

The Pioneer SX 3800 can drive speakers with very low sensitivity (86 db's) like the famous Quad ESL without any problem

Wharfedale Diamond III Monitors hifi

Unfortunately the small 4.5'' bass/midrange, the very low sensitivity of 86 db's and the 100 watts power is not the best thing for these Diamond III monitors hifi...

Good transparent sound and good stereo image with acoustic music and jazz at moderate levels

Synthesizer music sound good too, the mids are very good with very little coloration but the bass is too weak...

Orchestral and classical music on this monitors lack scale but they have good amounts of clarity and transparency with too low coloration at high frequencies

Our recomendations for Microphones

Every major studio in the world have ''neumann and akg microphones'' 

Personally, I don't think that Neumann and Akg are the only quality brands of microphones...

My favorite microphone of all times is the ''calrec soundfiled microphone type v'' from early eighties..

If your old enough (50+ yo) you may remember some of the Uk top 20 hits that the vocals they recorded by using the Calrec SoundField Microphone Type V (pwl studio uk)
