writer, musician, director, television presenter and much more, Ian F. Svenonius represents one of the most lively and interesting personalities of the American glam punk scene. He is a self-constructed character, whose career has involved various forms of art, with an approach that is always consistent and systematically in the ambiguity between the silly and the serious. He is the author of the underground bestsellers “Supernatural Strategies for Making a Rock ‘n’ Roll Group”, “The Psychic Soviet”, “Censorship Now!!” and “Against the written world” which is also his last published book. He was host of VBS.tv’s Soft Focus, a program in which he conducted meetings and conversations with the major exponents of punk / rock music of the 90s, musicians such as Mark E. Smith, Alan Vega, Genesis P. Orridge, Chan Marshall , Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon, Ian MacKaye and others. As a singer, on the other hand, he is loud and daring, his approach is simply brilliant, he marries the subversiveness of punk with the theatricality of glam rock. Svenonius in music, as in everything else, is dangerously doctrinal and political, he has the charisma of a popular leader and the irresponsibility of a maverick. What makes Ian Svenonius interesting is his use of language, characterized by ludicrous presumptions, a prose style, a supercharged Marxist-Leninist jargon put in the service of deliberate absurdity; he has released over twenty albums and countless singles in various bands he led such as “The Nation of Ulysses”, “Escape-ism”, “Chain & the Gang”, “The Make-Up”, and others.
