In this first episode to kick off season 2, Az is joined with special guest; Sirintip. Sirintip is a multi talented jazz musician/artist, who is signed to record label, GroundUP music - home to Grammy award winning Jazz fusion collective, Snarky Puppy. Together they talk and discuss about her career, future plans and her debut album; Tribus. The show features a large selection of music by Sirintip, Justin Stanton, Sasha Berliner, Esperanza, Robert Glasper, Norah Jones, Rachelle Ferrell to name a few!

In this episode Az pays homage to legendary artist Hamilton Bohannon. Az shares and discusses about why he thinks Bohannon is a great funk legend but also why he can often be overlooked. Alongside funky grooves from the vast discography of Hamilton Bohannon, the show also includes music from Candi Stanton, Roy Ayers, Rodney Franklin and The Doobie Brothers.

In this episode Az reflects on the current world affairs of the pandemic crisis and plays a curated list of music to lighten our moods. Featuring uplifting music from a wide selection of artists including Jill Jones, Prince, Mary Jane Girls, Mary J Blige, Sade and many more.

Starting a new mini series of episodes - Az pays homage to the female artists, musicians and producers that have made an influence throughout his life. The show is filled with music from female leaders within funk, soul, jazz and r’n’b including Minnie Riperton, Mary J Blige, Teena Marie, Sade, Nina Simone, Letta Mbulu and many more.

S2 EP4 - Looking up to the ladies

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of its release, Az dedicates the show to the classic Mobb Deep album, ‘The Infamous’. Alongside playing the classic cuts from the album, Az also shares a selection of rare remixes and demos. He also takes a deep dive into the many funk, soul and jazz records that helped inspire and create the masterpiece. The show features tracks by Mobb Deep, Grant Green, Norman Connors, The Headhunters, Esther Phillips, Herbie Hancock, Fatback Band and many more.

S2 EP5 - The Infamous 25th Anniversary

A sequel too soon....Az revisits and pays homage again to one of his funk hero's, Hamilton Bohannon. Who sadly passed away within the recent weeks (April 24th 2020). So it was only right Az created a show - to honour and celebrate Bohannon's life. The show is filled with selected gems from Bohannon's vast discography. Az also shares some music that took inspiration and sampled Bohannon, and artists who he worked closely with. The show features music from an all-star roster including Hamilton Bohannon, Caroline Crawford, The Originals, Marvin Gaye, Mary J Blige, Jay Z and many more. Rest in peace Hamilton Bohannon.

S2 EP7 - The Impromptu

Az is joined with special guest Albin, co-founder of Avant Garde Records and Boogie80. Az and Albin talk about the past music releases on the label and working with legendary artists such as Bobby Nunn and Heather Haywood. They also discuss about record digging and Albin even shares a few records from his collection. The show is filled with great music from many musical talents including Nickee B, Joanna Rose, Heather Haywood, The Cool Notes, Creme De Coco, Savanna and many more.

All the way from Brussels, we have one of Belgium’s finest funk creators — John Parm . Not only does he have credibility for his musical talents but he is also renown as an excellent DJ and selector. Exclusively for Studio Funk, John Parm provides a guest mix curating the very best of Belgian funk featuring a flavour of new and old gems. The show is also filled with new music from Ourra and the Gravity Drive, XL Middleton, Zackey Force Funk, Premonition and Billy Bruner to name a few!

Sister of the Sweater Funk crew and hostess of the Honey Pot on Dublab radio, comes one of LA’s finest — DJ Mamabear . Exclusive for Studio Funk, DJ Mamabear plays a delightful mix of modern funk and 80s rarities. Being a big fan of Mamabears work, Az was proud and stoked to have her as a guest. Her excellence as a DJ and selector is second to none...and today we have another great example for you to enjoy!

Alongside this Az also plays a mixture of new releases and personal favourites from Aldorande, Camarão Orkestra, Social Lovers, E.Live, McKenzie & Gardiner, Billy Bruner (again 😅) + more.

Ain't nothing but a G-Thang! By popular demand, Az dedicates a whole show to the golden G-Funk era. Playing classic and rare gems from his collection alongside some new music, this set will provide you with a soundtrack for your warm and sunny days.

The show features many legendary artists such as Snoop Dogg, Dâm Funk, XL Middleton, DJ Quik, Ice Cube, Too $hort, King Tee....and the list goes on!

Representing the mighty modern funk record label, Star Creature...comes one of the U.K’s finest producers, Ourra. Who pulls up a seat to the round table of special guests here at Studio Funk, and provides an excellent guest mix playing the best in Afro Boogie and Hi-Life Funk. Featuring many great artists including Julie Coker, Nana Tuffour, Shina Williams and Livy Ekemezie. Alongside that Az shares some of his favourite Ourra records and other personal favourites from within his collection.

S2 EP14 - The Impromptu part 2

In this episode Az hosts the show with Star Creature's front man...the magician on the keys - E. LIve. Together they talk at great lengths about what inspires E. Live as a musician, his first releases on Star Creature and the recent well established and celebrated Boogie for Life EP. The show is filled with great music curated by the hosts and includes music by Bayonics, The Pendletons, Sally Green, Donnell Pitman and of course the man himself - E. Live.

In this episode Az plays a selection of old favourites, new releases and recently acquired records whilst maintaining a ‘freestyle’ set. Covering a wide range of music from dance floor fillers through to soulful chillers (is that even a word?!). He even had the opportunity to devote some attention to some G-Funk from an album which is reaching a big milestone as it approaches a 25th anniversary this week on October 31st. Plenty of treats to sink your teeth into (accidental Halloween pun).

In this special episode Az sits down with the multi talented Sally Green. They talk to great lengths about Sally's background within music and the artists that were an influence throughout her life. They also discuss the recent and future collaborations with modern funk producers including Buscrates, Kazzey and Mofak. The show also features an exclusive look of her brand new single ‘Deja Vu’ produced by B. Bravo (an absolute monster of a track!). The show is filled with a ton of great music featuring a talented roster of artists including Sally Green, Stevie Wonder, The Brand New Heavies, Buscrates, Mofak, Rojai, Kool Customer and the list goes on!

As the end of the year draws closer, Az plays a mixture of new and old favourites. New releases from Max Zuckerman, Toby Glider alongside the new reissue of Special Touch - Garden of Life from Heels & Souls Records, alongside other great tracks from the golden British era. Az also plays some electro/jazz funk and includes a few surprises here and there 😉 With a vast mixture of music - 24 tracks! - it’s a show which cannot be missed.

For the last show of the year it would only be right to celebrate all of the great music released within the last 12 months. With a wide selection of Modern Funk, Soul, Jazz Funk though to reissues of forgotten classics/new treasures - it's a good wrap up to a tough year.
