« Hôtel Costes presents... » is a collection of exclusive music recorded at Studio HC, the hotel studio, and composed by Masomenos.

The first maxi, STUDIO HC # 01, is an ambient  trip created specially for the hotel by Masomenos.

Composed of Joan Costes and Adrien de Maublanc, Masomenos has a long collaboration with the french hotel music history. In fact, they have been in charge of the Costes presents serie, a minimal electronic oriented serie of albums by glacial, seuil and themselves, that hosted their first music project called “Costes presents BON VOYAGE”.

Since two years now, they have located their studio in the Hôtel Costes extension that have been on works, and named the place Studio HC. The music they produce there has shifted from a clubby energetic vibes to a textured and organic down-tempo mood. 

This first opuses @ studio HC definitively marks a new era in Masomenos sound.

Since the last opus of the Hôtel Costes famous collection, after more than 15 volumes carefully selected and mixed by stephane Pompougnac, there still was a true and huge demand from the audience to deliver new volume. Avoiding the trap of intenting to re-create an artificial make-up release with a Pompougnac copycat, the hotel has developed a strong presence on the streaming platform such as Apple music on which they release monthly playlist and digital selection (Radio Costes). They also have a Spotify platform that allows the audience to rediscover all the legacy collection while being connected with what is played live at the Hotel, curated by Studio HC in collaboration with WYM, the agency who tailors the music selection at the hotel. 

Now the hotel, which is to expand in 2019, is enriched with a music production studio / room and will therefore presents his own sound on vinyl while keeping the listeners fed with a unique curation through Apple Music and Spotify.

The first opus, 12 days a week, sounds like a modern tribute album to the chill out vibes of the Hôtel Costes legacy music collection.

The JAM ON THE MOON show is an hybrid performance combining musicians and DJs jamming together, broadcasted live inside Hôtel Costes from STUDIO HC. The intensity of live music creates a powerful vibe inside the hôtel and an exciting challenge for the musicians who know they are aired there.
This platform is inviting anyone who would feel compelled to jam this way: singers, drummers, pianists, poets…

The first session was recorded with pianist Julien Quentin, violist Adrien Boisseau, DJ e/tape and Adrien de Maublanc on modular synths.

JAM ON THE MOON #01

Masomenos join forces with ambient artist E/Tape this April for the fifth EP in the Hôtel Costes Presents...Studio HC series.

Parisian duo Masomenos are the minds behind the fledgling Studio HC project, which has already gained widespread recognition for its contemporary electronic twist on a classical and jazz leaning aesthetic. Here we see the pair deliver a project alongside E/Tape, a Slovenian producer and DJ operating in the ambient and experimental scene and highly praised for his emotive, atmospheric style, which has seen him, play alongside the likes of Jan Jelinek, Midori Takada, Mark Ernestus and Jeff Mills.

‘The Sound Of The Earth’ is made up of two parts, both fourteen-minutes long and split across the two sides of the record. ‘Part 1’ on the A-Side sees the duo fusing murky pad swells and modulating synths alongside vacillating percussion and thunderous low end pulses.

‘Part 2’ then continues the composition with the introduction of mediative voices, more percussive nuances, tripped-out resonant synth licks and gritty bass leads ebbing and flowing throughout the track sporadically.

Hôtel Costes Presents... continues its Studio HC project with the ‘On Met Les Voiles’ LP by Les Coeurs Brisés.

For the fourth long player in the Studio HC series Hotel Costes Presents... introduces a new collaborative guise from some of the key figures from the project, namely Adrien De Maublanc, Adrien Boisseau and Julien Quentin who here form Les Coeurs Brisés.

The project was born out of heartbreak as Boisseau and Quentin both
suffered breakups just before hitting the album was due to be recorded, the result is a raw, emotionally fuelled long player much of which was captured in the moment with one take and embraces all the technical glitches, grounding noise, unexpected quirks and nuances that come with recording on the fly.

‘On Met Les Voiles’ sees the trio once again exploring a modern classical/jazz meets electronic aesthetic, ranging from delicate keys on closing cut ‘La Haut’ through to the more electronic leaning styles of ‘Dans La Tempete’ and its swirling bass line and ‘De Bon Matin’ with its bumpy breaks, choppy bass stabs and airy piano lines.
The artists also explore more glitched-out ambient leaning styles on tracks like opener ‘Tout Doux’ title-cut ‘On Met Les Voiles’ and ‘Et Plonge’ which lay focus on textural synths, modular whirrs, minute percussive flutters and stunning intricacies from the organic instruments. Once again Studio HC delivers a forward thinking take on classic influences.

The Hotel Costes Presents... Studio HC series delivers its fifth long player, coming courtesy of A-Delta with their ‘Port De L’Arsenal’ album. A-Delta is the collaborative guise of Studio HC’s driving force Adrien De Maublanc and jazz guitarist David Mechali, a sonic synergy which sees the pair skilfully fuse intricate electronics with soul-infused guitar work. The result is a dynamic twist on a classic downtempo aesthetic

Throughout the project De Maublanc and Mechali meld together glitched out percussion, expansive delayed guitar licks and warm low-end tones. From the ever-unfolding, freeform jazz feel of tracks like opener ‘On A Rencontré’, ‘L’Autre Soir’ and title-cut ‘Port De L’Arsenal’ through to more subtly nuanced contributions like ‘Charmant’, ‘Un Musicien’, ‘A Paris’ and ‘Une Chance’, the pair deliver a touch of class and sophistication with a nod to classic jazz composition.

« Hôtel Costes presents... » is a collection of exclusive music recorded at STUDIO HC, the hotel’s studio, and here we see the series deliver its second album from Midiminuit, the outfit made up of pianist Julien Quentin, bass player Yonatan Levi and electronic musicians Cesar Merveille & Adrien de Maublanc (Masomenos).

Following on from the ‘Round The Clock’ LP back in September 2019, Midiminuit return with more of their atmospheric electronic twist on modern classical and contemporary jazz. Across the project they deliver hazy jazz jams like the bass noodle, wandering keys and metallic percussion fuelled ‘Kitchen Table’, the baroquely unfolding improvised feel of ‘Loop’ and the snaking dynamic groove of ‘Why Is The Bass So Low’.

The collective also veers into more abstract realms with contributions like ‘Welcome’, which features the ethereal stylings of vocalist Hani, the psychedelic opening piece ‘Do This Thing’ and the minimal modulating feel of ‘Barrio Acido’.

The album also presents some more new age aesthetics via the slowly blooming synthesis of ‘Deep In’ and the cinematic soundscapes of ‘Kindness’ which flutter amidst an intricately crafted rhythmic pulse.

STUDIO HC ORCHESTRA is a hybrid entity -part studio, part label, part ever-evolving ensemble founded by Joan Costes and 
Adrien de Maublanc (Masomenos)...A living orchestra without fixed form, shaped by collaborations, textures, light, and places.
It started in Berlin, then disappeared behind the construction dust of Hôtel Costes, where everything  grew quietly, in the in-between.
A studio carved into a building in transformation.
Music composed among unfinished walls, flickering bulbs, and dichroic filtered shadows. Private sessions in a space not yet meant to be seen — or heard. That’s where the orchestra found its voice.
Where silence, texture, and light became instruments in their own right layered not only with sound and silence, but with voices:
Terence McKenna, Aldous Huxley, Graham Hancock thinkers who challenge perception, decode the dream, the orchestra doesn’t just play.It listens, samples, reinterprets, and invites.
In the future: live conversations, unscripted dialogues with minds that bend the frame. This is not a genre. It’s a frequency. An invitation to tune in. Every contributor - sonic, visual, intellectual- part of the composition.
